A week before Moose died I had taken both of them in for thier check ups....Gato has had an off and on problem with his left ear, they could not look in it because of the swelling, it had alot of yeast, so I have been putting drops in his ear for that. The vet said that there may be palups in his ear, has anyone heard of this? At this moment and time I do not have the money to take him back but I am wondering if peniclun might help, I dont want to do that without making sure....when most of his teeth were pulled years ago, they left a few...I am thinking thier might be a little absess on one of his back molers and because I suspect that I want to start him on antibiots.....he is 16yrs old and pretty healthy....and lonley for Moose. Any info would really help me out right now. Thanks Pamela

First of all, not to alarm you but abcessis can be dangerous for felines - the poisions can stiffen the walls of the heart muscle. This is how Edgar died of a heart attack. So that is a priority...

I don't recommend doing anything without the vet's input - especially due to your cat's age. I have no idea if the side effects of penicillin treatment are dangerous for cats.

As to the ears, I haven't heard of that outside of humans and with US polyps are usually benign...

Dear Pamela
I'm so sorry to hear Gato's poorly, it must be worrying for you.

Polyps are not dangerous, and generally they are just left alone unless they grow big enough to block the ear

It sounds as if there might be something else going on, maybe an infection of some sort.

It would be worth trying a course of anti-biotics maybe, they seem to have solved many of the problems I've had with my different cats over the years.

I'm not sure if cats can have penicillin though. Isn't it usually some sort of special cat antibiotic. Little pink ones. I know you have to be very careful as many things that are okay for humans can make a cat very very ill. Like aspirin, paracetamol, chocolate.

I love the pic of your dear little one eyed baby. She's so beautiful. About names ... Ellie was named after the lady who runs the cat sanctuary that rescued her after she was abandoned. She's also my best friend.

Love and hugs

I hope your sweetheart Gato is feeling so much better, oh Pamela never give your baby anything without the vets approval. Even old medications that was once used for our babies might be dangerous for them if they are expired. I know how hard it is to take them when you are short on money but unless you know for sure what they have it is best not to use the old medication it is better safe than sorry.
