This afternoon at 2:30 my baby girl Gidget will be joining Goliath as she crosses the Rainbow Bridge. My fiercely independent girl began to have problems using her back legs again. A few years ago she began having pain in her legs so we took her to the vet and found a treatment that worked for
her. She's been pain free since then and still is now. A few weeks ago she became very unstable on her legs resulting in her not being able to get herself back up without our help. On Monday her left front leg also became unstable so I haven't left her side.
It breaks my heart to see her like this and know her so well. Though her appetite is good I know in my heart my independent little girl can't possibly be enjoying herself any longer. Her days have been filled with lots of love, support, sunshine as my hubby and I have prepared ourselves for this. We love her enough to let her go though it is beyond sad for us. We have always taken care of Gidget well and looked out for what is in her best interest. And that includes this decision as well. So it is with great sadness I say "goodbye for now" to my Gidgie Girl. Soon she'll be running once again like a gazelle whole and free. I will love her til the day after forever!! wub.gif

Thanks Marc!! Gidget has had a long run at 17 1/2 years old now. That's a few years longer than we expected her to make it. We have always felt so blessed to have her in our lives and the memories she's leaving behind her will sustain us smile.gif

Hi, goliath, please permit me to add my sincerest sympathies in this time of great sorrow for you and your husband in the decision to ease your precious Gidgie's transition journey home to the angels. As I look at the clock on Eastern Time I know you are still enjoying these final minutes and hours with your precious girl. It doesn't matter that you have experienced this before with other beloved companions for each experience is uniquely painful because each relationship we have with each of our precious companions is uniquely individual. Please know you and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers, and please know we are here for you for as long as you need us as you travel your grief adjustment journey.

Peace and blessings,

Thank you for your words of comfort Moon Beam. Gidget's transition was very peaceful. She has always loved it when I held her in my arms and sang to her. Just a little tune I made up for her when she was a little puppy about Mama loving her so much. wub.gif I've sung that song to her hundreds of times over the years and sang it again yesterday to her as my hubby and I held her close. She went so peacefully and I am so grateful for that. We've never experienced euthanasia before and now I can say we have no regrets about our decision with our precious Gidget. We stayed with her until the very end and then I carried her in her favorite pink blanket to Faithful Companions and had a cremation service in a beautiful room with a mural of Rainbow Bridge.

What is so heartbreaking today is watching one of my other pups, Browser, looking for Gidget everywhere. So, I've taken him and Bugsy out for a few walks today and indulged in play and treats for them. I know Gidget loved us very much too and would want her brothers to have as much fun as they can, just as she always did. My Gidgie was one very special girl who will always hold her own special place in my heart. wub.gif Though I'm not ready to share stories about her quite yet, I will be when I feel ready. So so many wonderful stories to tell about baby girl.

Thanks again for your words of comfort!!
Beth

AWWWW Steph............Thanks for thinking of us. I'm so glad we connected nearly 7 years ago right here at LS. Though we met under such sad circumstances back then, I'm so glad we became lifelong friends. rolleyes.gif

Hi, Beth, thank you so much for sharing with us how you're doing. I am so glad your baby girl's transition home to the angels yesterday was peaceful. Euthanasia is the last gift of love we can give to our companions at great sacrfice to ourselves so that they can be restored to their former youthfulness in the company of the angels. Even when we have precious companions remaining in the home there is still the adjustment to the huge void not having a beloved companion's physical presence. I know from first hand experience that comforting our remaining companions can also bring comfort to us, and I know your precious Browser and Bugsy will be okay with your tender loving care.

I thank you so much for honoring us in sharing your beloved Gidgie with us. Looking at her picture there is no doubt she knows she is loved, and you are so blessed to be her heir to her eternal love. I hope today is treating you, your husband, Browser, and Bugsy kindly, and that each of you will have a peaceful evening blessed with your beloved Gidgie's sweet Living Spirit to comfort you. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, Beth, and please let us know how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,

Today is my Gidgie Girl's 1st Angelversary. Though she left for Rainbow Bridge a year ago, it doesn't seem that long ago. On Fall days like today she loved hanging out with me, following me everywhere. No matter how she felt, she always enjoyed her time at home with Mama. Especially when Browser and Bugsy went to the shop with Daddy.

Missing you baby girl, today and always!! wub.gif
