"Happy 15th Birthday My Sweet Angel Mickey"

My Dear Sweet Mickey,
This would have been the the 15th year of your earthly journey. As you got older I always hoped you would make it another year.
A few years ago you got a heart murmur; you gave us several more years because you did well. Then about three years ago you got a bad cold and also developed mediated immune deficiency anemia. One vet didn't give you the right medicine, and your blood got so thin, you bled from the mouth. We rushed you to another vet, she gave you the right medicine and we got you well. And you gave us another year, then another year, and almost another year, but your little heart just couldn't beat any longer even though you were on heart medication. I know you tried so hard, you had such a lively, playful spirit.
I remember your last birthday. You got up from your late morning nap so hungry. You came in the kitchen and I gave you your fresh cooked hamburger, chicken, and rice. You really enjoyed it. Then you got ice cream later. I will never forget that.
Did your little angel friends give you a birthday party? Did they give you your special treats you love so much? Did they give you vanilla ice cream like I did? Did they give you a special soft toy? I hope so.
Sweet Mickey, I found this poem that fits us so well:
My Best Friend
Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound....
then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can't be yours....
your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.
