If this is in the wrong forum I apologize but I wasn't sure where else to put this.
We lost Winston almost two weeks ago when he was hit by a car and I've noticed recently that the two girls (Miya and Takoda) aren't really eating. They've always been finicky but not to this extent. Last night I tried giving them each 2 cans of canned food, which they normally love, but Miya only nibbled at hers and Takoda, while she ate more, didn't do much better.
Personality wise, they both appear fine... still the same lovable dogs they've always been. My son and I had them outside yesterday playing fetch with Miya and keepaway with Takoda and they were as full of energy and life as they've always been.
Physically, Miya doesn't seem to be losing weight, but Takoda has (maybe because we're exercising her more; during our last vet visit we were told she was getting tubby), but not to the point she looks unhealthy.
We've tried changing their dried food, to no avail, we've given them new dog bowls, also to no avail. Tonight I'm going to cook them some rice with boiled chicken and see if that sparks an appetite, and I also am going to feed them some Gravy Train, which they used to really like.
Other than that, is there anything else I can do, or should I not really worry? Some people say that they'll eat when they're ready, that their survival instinct won't let them starve, but that doesn't help much.
Any advice that anyone can give me?

So sorry that your Miya and Takoda aren't feeling up to snuff. I can imagine how sad they must be to have lost their good buddy, Winston.
Sending a link to a new pet-care website I've discovered recently that provides excellent advice on all kinds of topics. Dr. Becker is a vet that practices integrative medicine. She offer fabulous advice, and she has written (and videoed) a huge number of important topics you can search. If you register to the site, you can receive her weekly newsletter via email for free.

Hi, Clay, well it does sound like your girls are grieving the loss of Winston. Living beings can go days, weeks, sometimes even months without food with no permanent harm, but every living being needs water on a daily basis to live. So, my question is: Are they still drinking plenty of water - - nothing more or less than what they normally do? It is good that you're trying to give them something to eat that will interest them, but as you know grieving does include a level of depression which can and usually does include appetite loss for awhile. Monitor them closely and don't hesitate to get them checked out by your vet if their appetite continues to be suppressed. Don't wait any longer than perhaps 4 or 5 days. And of course checking out information on line will be a good resource for you as well.
I'm wondering how things are going with the adoption process? Perhaps getting a new sister will help to stimulate their interest in eating again.
Clay, I do hope the girls begin to eat again normally. I know this is a major concern for you, and rightfully so. Please know you, Miya, Takoda, and all your family are in my thoughts and prayers, and please let us know how things are going.
Peace and blessings,
