Now my foster mommy is really sick. She was fine yesterday morning and by the time I returned from work she was very sick. The babies were all crying - she was not feeding them at all. I called the shelter and took her in. They checked her temp it was 105.2 - off to the vet. The vet thought she has a severe infection, which could be septic (not sure of the spelling). She could hardly hold her head up. I did take the babies with me, the vets office kept mom and the babies. They were going to start the babies on bottle feeding (the vet decided it best to take them from mommy at this point) and give Molly sub q fluids. The vet said she may have to be hospitalized for a few days. I am glad we got her to the vet, but was shocked on how bad she got in just 9 hours. I am praying they will all be okay. Hopefully I will hear something today.

Karen, I'm so sorry. This is the last thing you needed on your plate right now. I'm glad you had her, though, so she could get to the vet. How old are the babies? It breaks my heart to think of them crying. I hope she will respond to treatment quickly.

I'm sorry to hear this. I once had a dog who developed milk fever. She seemed fine when I let her out in the yard to go potty but a few minutes later could not climb the stairs to get to her babies. I had to bottle feed the babies until they could eat on their own and wipe their little butts. They all survived as did the mom after spending a few days at the vet and had to be on a high calcium diet for a while-lots of cottage cheese etc. Maybe your Molly has something similar since it seemed to happen so fast as well. I hope she is doing better now and will be fine after this crisis passes.

Good news, Molly is doing well. Her fever has gone down and they are going to make sure she will nurse the babies. If she is, I will be able to pick her up this evening.

That's great news Karen. Love to Molly and the babies and you. xx

Hi, Karen, I just read through your first post (through the e-mail alert), and am so relieved after logging in that Molly is doing so much better. I'm keeping mom and babies close in my thoughts and prayers that Molly will be able to nurse again. Nursing is so o o much better for the babies than bottle feeding, as I'm sure you well know.

Please know you are close in my thoughts and prayers as I know this has been quite a scare for you, and I will be looking forward to knowing how things are going.

Peace and blessings,

Molly is not doing well again. After bringing her home she has developed bad diarrhea and not eating much at all. She hardly wants to feed the babies, and with me working all day I am unable to bottle feed much. The babies are almost 4 weeks. I am so stressed out, I guess I should have waited to foster, I really do not need this stress right now. On top of all this my Keara has stopped eating too. We are keeping a close eye on her and hopefully she will eat this evening (not much luck this morning). I had to go to a graduation last night, so when I got home at 10 pm I was hit with my Keara not eating and just sleeping all evening and four kittens screaming for food. This morning was not much better. Mommy kitty is just too sick to nurse - I have a call into the shelter to see what I need to do now. I had to leave for work, so I have no idea what is happening at home. I am also worried about one of the babies, it is half the size of the other three. I know this forum is for our own pets, but just needed to talk a little about these fosters - I just need a little support. With the news about Donna's Buck, my Keara not eating and my foster troubles I am just sitting her in the office alone crying. At least I am alone, but boss tells us no crying at work.

Karen, I'm so sorry. No, you don't need all this right now. When it rains, it pours. At least at my house anyway. Is Molly on antibiotics? I don't remember what you said before. If she is, maybe they're messing with her stomach. I hope the little one makes it. I hope they all make it for them and for you.
It all gets so overwhelming sometimes. On Saturday, not only did Buck vomit but so did Daphne and Sera. All of them within about an hour of one another. I knew Daphne's was a furball, but still. The stress of hearing that noise again! I just stood in the living room and looked around and asked why. I don't understand. Our carpet needs to be pulled up & thrown away at this point. The girls are fine, but I knew Buck wasn't.
My only thought about Keara is, don't wait to have her checked. I wish we had taken Niles in sooner. I thought he wasn't eating due to grief. But like in Keara's case, it had been a little while after Frasier's death before he got finicky. I hope it's nothing. I do so hope it's nothing. But if it's not, you know we're here.
I'm sorry you have to be at work. I am all too familiar with that distracted, worried feeling while trying to "play nice". I just couldn't do it today. I'm not the most fond of the partner I would've had at work today and I didn't feel like being nice to her today. She's not mean, just disappointing. I thought it would be in her best interest if I stayed home. It'll be a burden on a couple of other people but it's not like I'm not burdened as well. I wish you could go home and tend to your worries. I hope everything will be better when you get home. Thank you for your reply to me on my thread. Buck has left a huge cavern in our home.

Hi, Karen, I am so sorry about momma kitty, Keara, and one of the kitty babies. I do so know what it's like having to go to work while your heart is filled with worry about babies at home. I hope you're able to take your babies to the vet in the next couple of days, if not sooner, so that they can be checked out. Did the vet ever say why momma kitty was so sick before? Did she have Eclampsia? You may need to take the fragile baby under your wing and feed him / her. Even if it's twice a day that would be better than having him / her fail to thrive because momma kitty can't handle four babies. And I think foster fur kids qualify just as much for this Forum as permanent fur family members.

Please let us know how things are going, Karen, and how you're doing. And please know you and all of your fur babies under your care are in my thoughts and prayers.

Peace and blessings,

Hi, Karen, I read in your post to Donna that you had to take one of the rescue kittens to the ER vet. How are things going with your rescue babies and Molly? And how is Keara doing? You're in my thoughts and prayers, Karen, and please let us know how things are going.

Peace and blessings,

Hi,

Keara is doing fine now. Blood work came back perfect! I guess we were being overly protective, but with Casey and Shelby and the hidden illness they had, we are on edge.

Molly is back at the shelter. She is a very little cat - with the infection she had and nursing it was too much for her (that is what the vet said). They have been giving her fluids and a/d. I saw her yesterday when I picked up my little one and she is much better. The baby seems a little better, but she is just so little compared to the others. She is eating good, so I am hopeful she will be okay. I usually really enjoy fostering, but with the health issues I have been dealing with it has been stressful.

Hi, Karen, thank you so much for sharing what has been happening. I'm glad to know that her blood work is okay, and hope she's eating again - - with enthusiasm. I do hope that Molly and her babies will be okay, all of her babies. It's good news that the littlest one is eating - - that's always a good sign.

Karen, there is a saying - - all things in their due time. Someday again you will be able to foster homeless waifs while they're waiting for loving permanent homes. For now it's okay to just allow yourself time to rest and heal and minimize the stressors.

Please know you and Keara are in my thoughts and prayers, Karen, and will look forward to hearing how things are going.

Peace and blessings,
moon_beam
