I'm new here. I lost my beautiful 12 year old basset hound the other day, due to complications from bloat. I was feeling a lot of regret and blame (don't want to get into that, right now). Anyway, long story short, I have been meaning to mail this package for a while and just kept procrastinating and decided I would take it today to the UPS store as I went by, because they tend to be less crowded than the post office. Well, when I got there you would have thought it was Christmas again, there were so many people, so I had to stand in line. I got bored and started looking around and staring back at me was the cutest basset hound card, same colors as Oscar, sleeping under the covers with his ear covering his eyes. Really hard to explain, but I think you get the picture. I truly believe this is a sign from Oscar to let me know that he is ok with everything and that he is sleeping peacefully. (of course, I bought the card and it is currently displayed). I mean, so much had to happen in order for me to see this card, that I know it was a sign. First, I procrastinated, decided to go to the ups store instead of the post office, it was crowded, bc if it wasn't I probably would have walked straight up to the counter without seeing the card. I now have this peaceful feeling, I don't know how long it will last, but is nice to feel for the moment. So, was this a sign? I totally believe it was, but just curious on your take.

I'm so sorry about Oscar. We had a German Shepherd when I was young that we lost to bloat. What a nasty, horrible condition. I definitely identify with you on the regret and blame thing. I lost my 3 and a half year old cat to a blocked bladder (crystals formed in his bladder due to not certain what. He was acting cheerful and happy and healthy only two days before) that I just didn't have the money to treat. It will be two weeks ago tomorrow. Guilt is my constant companion... If I had gotten my new job earlier, if I had put more money into savings, if I hadn't bought this or that...

I think that they do send us a sign. For me, it was a partial rainbow driving to work 3 days after I lost my little Puck. Only one other person saw that little rainbow, but it sure was beautifully bright for me to see.
That peace comes and goes, but it is a comfort to me in the rough times when i think about it.

Hi Earsl

I am so sorry to hear of the sad loss of your dear Oscar.
I am sure that you had a 'sign' from your Angel Boy, and you say it gave you a peaceful feeling, thats wonderful as he got his message through. I am such a believer in these 'signs'. If you read some of the postings on here you will see that many of us have had things happen that let us know that our dear Angel babies are letting us know that they are watching over us.
I hope that your feeling of peace will last. If you do feel sad, look at your card again, and remember Oscars message to you.

Dear earsl, I truly believe it was a sign from Oscar. And I know what a blessing it was for you to receive it. The universe works in mysterious ways. For not even two months after I lost my golden retriever, Abbey, did I get a similar, unmistakable sign. As I peered out the window at Abbey's paw prints still pressed into the frozen snow, feeling inconsolably sad, I noticed way off in the distance in my neighbor's yard up on the hill, a golden retriever who was about the same size and coloring as Abbey. I knew in my heart that as far away as that dog was, and there were no other goldens in my neighborhood, that I would be paid a visit by that energetic dog. I so-o needed such a visit to feel the physical presence of my lost girl again, and I know it sounds strange, but I just "knew" that golden would come over and visit me, as slim as those chances were. I felt so certain, in fact, that I made no effort to attract the dog -- to call it -or make a sound. Nor did I even step outside. I kept the door shut, and with an extremely calm presence, I just waited and mentally welcomed the dog as I went about my business in the house. Sure enough, about fifteen minutes later, I heard a thumping at my front door. It was the dog's tail, hitting the door as it walked in small circles around the brick landing. I glanced out the window knowing exactly what to expect -- and I wasn't disappointed. I opened the door and said "Hi, baby!" and the dog freely trotted into my home and scouted around the kitchen as though looking for a treat, the way Abbey always did. I gave it some water and a biscuit. It seemed nervous at first, like a lost dog would. But it soon came and sat right beside my chair, letting me pet him. He licked my fingers and face as his tail wagged. It was so joyful and healing for me to feel that beautiful silky fur and see those deep brown eyes glistening with health and hapiness looking back at me, even just for a fleeting moment. I even asked him... "Did Abbey send you here to say hello? Does she want me to know that she's alright? Does she know how incredibly much I miss her? You tell her that, ok? You tell her for me". And with that I thanked him and told him that he was an angel. After my tears cleared, I began the process of returning him to his rightful owner. Turns out, this golden, named "Oliver," actually lives several streets away and he had never wandered off so far from home before. His owner was perplexed. She thanked me profusely, but it was me who was the most grateful -- for the sign from my sweet angelbear, my dearest Abbeymae.

So, I hope you know that your sign was very, very real, and it came straight from your beloved basset, Oscar. Keep that moment deep within your heart and cherish it always. They are always with us, I truly believe, ever closer in spirit with time.

"To Where You Are"

Who can say for certain maybe you're still here. I feel you all around me. Your memory's so clear. Deep in the stillness, I can hear you speak. You're still an inspiration. Can it be ...

That you are my Forever Love. And you are watching over me from up above!

Fly me up to where you are beyond the distant star. I wish upon tonight to see you smile! If only for a while to know you're there. A breath away's not far to where you are.

Are you gently sleeping here inside my dream? And isn't faith believing all power can't be seen. As my heart holds you just one beat away, I cherish all you gave me everyday!

'Cause you are my Forever Love watching me from up above. And I believe that Angels breathe and that Love will live on and never leave!

Fly me up to where you are, beyond the distant star! I wish upon tonight to see you smile if only for a while to know you're there. A breath away's not far to where you are.

I know you're there! A breath away's not far to where you are!

Hi Earsl
I do believe that was a sign -- the day after we lost our westie -Sammy - we were driving and two sun dogs appeared. They looked like miniature rainbows too -- I believe that was sign from Sam that's she's okay and at the rainbow bridge. When my neighbor put her dog to sleep 3 weeks later, again the sun dogs appeared. That's the only two times this winter I've seen sun dogs. They don't happen often.
