For the past couple of days, my husband and I have visited the Humane Society looking for a puppy to poor out all of the love we would be giving to Jasper if he were still alive and to help our 10 year old dog stop moping. It's only been two weeks and while Jasper will always hold a special place in my heart, I'm ready to try again. I just hope it's not too soon.
We found Lizzy, a 3 month old Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix. She's a spunky little thing, but when we introduced her to Tucker, our 10 year old Golden Retriever/Shepherd, she showed submission almost immediately. Tucker did his normal, "yeah, whatever" but he got up and started following her around. She saw the leash being dragged around so she grabbed hold of it and started trying to take Tucker for a walk!
My biggest fear is that I'm going to fail again to teach this new puppy what "no" means. As much as I love Jasper, he was very defiant, he would do exactly opposite what you told him to do. It was like a game to him.
Anyway, keep us in your prayers. I pick her up Monday night and then the housetraining begins.
