FoggysDad
At approximately 0700 BST on August 1, 2008, our beautiful Bedlington terrier, Foggy, aged just 7, entered our enclosed garden and began his daily ritual of exploring, relieving himself and preparing for a longer walk before breakfast. Minutes later, at around 0710, he screamed after being shot in his flank.

He leaves behind Kookie, another Bedlington (aged an impressive 15), his two owners, Sue and Simon, and their two sons, Andrew and Paul. As everyone will attest, he was an extremely affectionate and playful character who brought immense joy to those around him. We were so fortunate to have him in our lives.

We know that he was shot with a precision air rifle. The sharpened vermin pellet punctured his heart. He died within 20 minutes on the way to the local veterinary surgery. Worst of all, he suffered greatly and died in Sues arms as Simon desperately tried to reach the surgery in time. Needless to say, they will never fully recover from this traumatic experience. The family has been stripped of a core emotional asset; indeed, Foggy was an integral part of the family unit, who brought boundless joy, healing and companionship to all its members.

Hi, FoggysDad, please permit me to offer you my sincerest sympathies in the loss of your beloved Foggy. Losing a beloved furchild is never easy, but is especially traumatic when the cause is a deliberate act of murder. A little kitty I had when I was a very young child was shot by a bebe gun and died from blood poisoning on Thanksgiving Day. So, I do understand your deep sorrow. May I ask if the police arrested the horrible perpetrator of this crime and if that person is being prosecuted for the death of your beloved Foggy? Not that this would ever comfort your heart, but it would bring some form of justice for Foggy, I would hope. There was no justice 50 years ago for my little Willie, and I was devastated from the loss of my little buddy. Please know you and your entire family are not alone in your grief journey from this horrible loss. We are here for you for as long and as often as you need us. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, FoggysDad, and please keep us posted as to how you're doing.

Peace and blessings,

Hello FoggysDad

I am glad you are here at this website. I just lost my dear 5 year old cat Ziggy on August 28th, who I had just adopted after Christmas after losing my other sweet cat Zita. Ziggy was also shot, we don't know what with - it was a very small hole but had the power to go completely through her abdomen. It was certainly more powerful than an airgun.

I don't know who did this - we reported it to the police and to the SPCA but no answers.

To make things worse, in post mortem we found out that her injuries could have been mended - she had a severed bowel. But the emergency vet on staff, for whatever reason did not open up her abdomen to check. She said the x-rays and blood looked fine, sewed up the two holes and 5 days later she died. It haunts me that we were force feeding her and she had no bowel. Also we were told that this was a fixable injury by the vet who did the post mortem. I am extremely depressed - worse than ever in my life. I am not functioning normally and this is after a couple of pretty rough years already.

There must be a way to find strength within these situations or to make meaning of our pet's lives. Whoever shot Ziggy did it for no reason than "entertainment" and it has created so much pain.

I would like to know more about your petition and how I could use it here in Canada. I would like to do something in Ziggy's memory but I don't yet know what.

take care

Jan.

I posted to you about your story in Tributes and I just want to note again here how very sorry I am this horrible thing happened to Foggy.

Dear FoggysDad,

There is little less that is worse than a murderer of a precious pet. Especially while still on our own property. What a loss of a human soul, not to know the love of an animal. I've ALWAYS said, "There should never be more people than animals in this world". My Heart is breaking for you. I Pray Foggy comes to you in your dreams to lessen your pain by telling you he is O.K. now. My Nickels never met a dog he didn't love. He once approached a rottweiller and rolled on his back. The rottweiller didn't know what to do since Nickels didn't run from him. They ended up being the best of friends. I know Nickels is playing with Foggy and keeping him company until you meet again. I can just see them romping in a beautiful meadow next to the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for us.

My deepest sympathies go out to your family. Please, come back as often as you need to. There are so many wonderful fur parents that feel your pain. I am soooo sorry for your loss.

As tears pour down my face, my heart goes out to you and your family. sad.gif What kind of evil monster commits such a senseless act of violence against one so pure and innocent? For anyone to have come into your premises with such ill intent is abhorrent to me. The perpetrator obviously has no moral sense whatsoever and lacks the ability to love or be loved. Our homes should be our safe haven, a place we can be and trust that all is good.

I am so sorry Foggy's departure from this world to another was so tragic and unecessary. The devastion you and your family feel is more than understandable and I know it will never be forgotten or recovered from. Whenever a member of a family has passed away it is difficult to cope with, even under normal cir%%stances. It's like having removed the spoke of a wheel and now the wheel just doesn't turn right. Our world is turned upside down as we fight through the grief and agony of being forced to live another kind of life without them.

Though Foggy's body has perished, his loving soul will remain alive with you now as it always has been. Nothing can ever sever the bond he has with you and your family. Your hearts are bound forever and one day all of you will reunite in a place where there is no evil........only love and eternity. wub.gif

If the person who committed this atrocity escapes justice in this world, you can be sure he/she won't in the next. Whether now or then, this murderous act of violence will be reckoned with. God doesn't like ugly.

This morning, all I can send you are hugs of comfort. My prayers are with you, Sue, Andrew, Paul, as well as Kookie.

Much love with comforting hugs from my heart to yours,
Beth

I'm so very sorry about your devastating loss. I hope the thing that did that to your dog rots in hell.

We struggle to finally accept the loss of a friend to disease or accident, and eventually manage the loss.
A deliberate act, sudden and senseless, has its own special trials.
At least you know who did it. Possibly someday you will being a position to help protect Society from the miscreant. In my sad experience, animal abusers go on to abuse humans, so there is some possibility of justice, someday...though other lives may be lost along the way.

My good side wishes and prays for comfort for you.

My bad side wishes for a dark night and a cricket bat.

I try not to get angry here, but the few stories of abuse and killing adds disgust with humanity to the sad feelings.
I think you are handling it better than I would.
Good job on your tribute page!

I'm glad to hear you went walking with Kookie. No doubt Kookie is feeling the loss of Foggy's presence much the same as you are. Our animal friends are so in touch with what we are feeling and stay right by our side. They are ever so faithful right to the very end no matter what happens to us.

I remember when my Goliath passed away so suddenly without warning. My Gidget mourned his death just as much as I did. Watching her grieve broke my heart over and over again because she looked for him constantly everywhere. Gidget is 11 years old and was very set in her ways when Goliath went to Heaven. I had all but given up hope of restoration to a new kind of happy life and found myself wondering if Gidget would either. We nurtured each other through the most heartbreaking time of our lives.

A couple of months after Goliath left with the angels, I found LS and found hope, inspiration, and a will to go on. As I began to recover, so did Gidget. Goliath's death softened her spirit and we were more than a little surprised when she welcomed a brand new puppy into her heart and our home this last April. ohmy.gif

Those who are so blessed to have lived a life filled with love in making beautiful memories with those they love come to learn what is most important in life. Our furry family members enhance our awareness and open our eyes and hearts to what really matters. Each day is a gift to make use of in making a difference in ourselves and all those around us.

May you be blessed with comfort, peace, and love during this sad time of your life. Hold the memories you and Foggy made together closest to your heart where he will dwell forever. Nobody can kill a loving spirit such as his. wub.gif

Much love and comfort from my heart to you and your family,
Beth

I have read your post several times and every time I am just at a loss for words, I am aching deeply for my own loss and yet want to offer my deepest condolence for yours. Our hearts ache in unison at this site; I have found it so helpful to come here when I'm in the depths of pain (like late at night, when Elliott would come and pester me to go to bed). So please know that my heart goes out to you.
With care,

This is so sickening a kind of loss, it's unbelievable. I have to echo a few others' sentiments:

From Nickels, "There should never be more people than animals in this world".
From Jon, "My good side wishes and prays for comfort for you. My bad side wishes for a dark night and a cricket bat."
And from Beth, "Our homes should be our safe haven, a place we can be and trust that all is good."

I've signed your petition and hope it helps bring some justice for your dearest Foggy's blatant murder. I can only begin to imagine how you all must be feeling....it's just so horrendous, words fail me.

Foggy's tribute page touched me, as did both of his tribute videos. The one with the music (from that kind-hearted person on YouTube) had me bawling, in unison with your family's heartache, as well as for all of us who've lost ones so vital and precious to our now-shattered lives. I'm so terribly sorry for your whole family, Simon. Please pass my sincerest sympathies on to everyone, and give Kookie an extra hug and tender kiss from me, to help with the so-sudden loss of his/her pal.

This is so terrible. I have a pit in my stomach just thinking about this. Please accept my condolences, and my sincerest wishes that this monster roasts in Hell for this unbelievably evil act.
