It's been quite a while since I have posted. We have had another incredibly hard year. The past month though, things are going very well. Almost afraid to be happy but what the heck. We deserve it after two years of horrible deaths, loss of business, etc.

Next Thursday, the 28th, will be 2 years since we lost our precious Nickels. I have never grieved over a fur baby like this before but I Thank God he shared Nickels with us for 13 years.

As some of you remember last year, we rescued a 3 week old kitty, Frankee that was dumped and left for dead. This was a half hour after our best friend Frank told us he had 3 months to live. Hence the name Frankee. Frankee is doing quite well. Since he was so sick when we found him, his growth is a little stunted. He just turned a year old last friday and he's about the size of a 6 month old tabby which means he'll stay a "kitten" for the rest of his life. He's happy and healthy but not a cuddler. He's his own man and loves picking on his adopted MaMa cat "Awassi" that is 14 and aches from arthritis. We also have a 15 year old Calico that still, after a year, wants nothing to do with Frankee.

So last Friday I was looking at kittens on the internet. I found a kitten down in Oklahoma City and filled out an application. The lady called today and we were overwhelmingly approved with a great review from our Vet. So next Tuesday, not tomorrow, we go pick up Jasper. He is about 12 weeks old and is half siamese. Frankee will finally have a playmate and little brother! We are very excited and he couldn't have come along at a better time with Nickels 2 year passing coming up.

I finally got a new camera and am having problems with my photo program so I hope this doesn't need to be resized. I'll also try to post a picture of Frankee that I took today.

I've missed everyone here and glad to be posting again.

I'm SOOOO excited!! biggrin.gif If all goes well and we can get our job started early enough, tomorrow will be JASPER DAY!! I forgot about the initial excitement!! All week long I've been walking around the house saying, "Here Kitty Kitty Kitty JASPER!" Well Frankee looks at me like I've finally slipped over the edge and forgot his name!

I called the lady that has arranged the adoption and also another one of the adoption gals called me. I think they are just as excited. We will go on the hour and a half drive and finally pick up this sweet little boy.

I've moved a bedroom around upstairs so that we can use it as the introduction area. It's also the next room we will be remodeling so he can scratch on the plywood floor. I'll play with him up there and get some one on one time. I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve! Hubby took me to one of the ******* out here tonite and I was talking to the machine, "Come on! Baby kitty needs new toys!" Yes, I got a few weird looks but one lady was really enjoying it when I explained the adoption.

Anyway, if all goes well tomorrow I should be able to post pictures tomorrow or the next day.

I'm SOOO excited!!

I'm a little worried that some of you will wonder where "Hubby took me" since there are several stars instead of the word. It's a place where they have card machines. Where you bet a few coins as in "nickels" and usually lose! Don't want anyone thinking the worst. Just can't spell c a s i n o! It's completely legal LOL!

I just had a lightning bolt of a bad thought! What if Jasper panics and doesn't want me? I've never adopted a kitty over the internet from a picture! He's had a foster Mom and maybe this will be a trama. I can't imagine devastating this little guy and taking him away from the only Mom he's only known.

Any suggestions? I'm panicking over this thought!

dear Michelle
(i don`t have any practical suggestions)
but i am very sure that everything will be ok, no need to panic.
maybe little Jasper will not like so much the travelling with the car, that`s the only problem i can think of,
(remembering some of my cats meowing constantly and really loud when i had to bring them with my car)
but you know, even that must not happen.
Jasper will love you.

have a good and exciting weekend!

Hi, Michelle

Don't worry. Jasper will be fine. When Joanne here (jackjackbojack) adopted kitties the way you are doing..everything has been fine. One was timid and hit under the bed and came out for food and litter box for a while. Now he jumps into her lap every chance he gets. She was worried he was missing where he came from and maybe things seem strange at first. But when he realized this was his home.....he was more than fine.

Glad you had fun at the "place" hubby took you. After all, that is what this town is all about, isn't it?

It will be okay!

JASPER IS HOME!! We are into day four and everything couldn't be better!

Saturday we went and picked up Jasper. When I rounded the corner I saw him immediately. I started crying he is so beautiful. wub.gif He was sitting up in the cage and looking so regal. The picture they posted of Jasper was a very poor photo. When I saw Jons photos of Iggy, I LOVED the white tips on his front feet. Jasper has white tips on his front feet!! His back legs are white like Iggys too. Jasper is just precious. So on the way home my Hubby wanted to try out a c a s i n o located outside of Oklahoma City. We took Jasper in with us in his designer carrier. We didn't win or lose but we were in the c a s i n o for a couple of hours. He loved watching the spinning reels and not one person noticed I had a kitten with me. He was so kicked back. Then we went into the buffet. Again, no one noticed and we sat on the edge of the restaraunt as to not attract attention. Everything was fine until the little bugger smelled chicken! Then the bag started moving big time LOL! So I cut up a handful and quickly unzipped the door and dropped it in. Then he was fine. He rides fine in the car and didn't try to get out of my lap once. He cuddled, cood, and purred.

We got home and it was a royal hissing fest which was expected. So I had cleaned the room upstairs for Jasper and stayed up a couple of hours with him. Then I put him in bed with me and the snuggle fest began. He loves sleeping with me and will maul my head with rubs kisses and purrs. I met his Foster Mom at Pets Mart and she said he was her favorite out of the entire litter and she nicknamed him "Frenchie" since he WILL stick his tongue in your mouth while he kisses you! He never leaves the bed all night until Buck gets up.

We are officially on day 4 and Frankee and Jasper are BEST friends! They play and play and play laugh.gif . Frankee is so gentle with him. If he gets a little rough, Jasper won't play. Then Frankee turns and walks away and WHAM, Jasper pulls the old surprise attack!

I found a beautiful black feather boa for my Mom to wear in the pageant this weekend (Ms. Senior Oklahoma). I came home and put the bag on the counter. In the middle of the night I came down for a drink of water. I didn't turn on the light and when I went into the kitchen I saw hundreds of big black roaches on the kitchen floor! Everyone is having problems with them this year for some reason. I freaked out and turned on the light. No, they were not roaches, SOMEONE had got the feather boa out of the bag and had a party ripping feathers out of it! So I left them there and Buck did the same thing when he got up in the middle of the night!

I couldn't have picked a more perfect little kitten out if I would have had a check list of over 100 things I wanted in a kitten. He is purrfect! He is just what Frankee and I needed. For the first time Frankee can play with another cat without getting in trouble. We're seeing a side of Frankee that we never had seen before. I also have a snuggle bunny now since Frankee does not like to cuddle. Buck LOVES the little guy too but he is mostly my kitty with Frankee favoring Buck. Even Mama Wassi has taken to the little guy with cleaning him as he sleeps. Jasper is purrfect in every respect! It's like he has always been here he fits in so well.

He reminds me so much of Nickels. He's got the same face and so many of Nickels personality traits. There will never be another Nickels but Jasper is a sweet reminder of him. I just love this baby so very much!!

I need to resize my photos since they are not loading but I will post the new pictures.

WHAT A CUTIEPIE! I adore the pictures. And your descriptions were SO REAL...loved that too!

I do see a likeness to Nickels in Jasper's face especially around the eyes and nose (well that is the face, isn't it? huh.gif

Keep posting stories and pictures. I am so very glad Frankee and Jasper have bonded so quickly.

Such wonderful news.

Thank you for sharing. It is nice to read stories that makes us smile.

Nickels was almost all white when he was a kitten too. Some siamese get darker with age so I'm thinking Jasper will too.

It's been two years since I've had a kitty jump up in my lap. Little Jasper just jumped up in my lap and is snoozing now. I'll never take this for granted ever again. He even taps me when he wants to be picked up like Nickels used to.

I must have looked at over 1000 kittens on PetFinder.com before I chose Jasper and it was worth every moment of my time.

We paid a $70.00 adoption fee to the Oklahoma Humane Society through Pets Mart. This includes a 4 lb. bag of kitten formula Science Diet. They give you a custom folder with the kitties name on it including all medical records. They test for FELEUK/FIV. Also included are 2 of the 3 FVRCP and FELEUK boosters. They neuter or spay, deworm, and treat with Frontline for fleas and ticks. They include the name of the vet that does all the work. Also included in the folder is a DVD on Cat Care that is made by Animal Planet. Several printouts and pamphlets are also included. A very impressive package for $70.00.

We also met Jaspers Foster Mom and two other people that I have been speaking with over the course of the week. We also met Jaspers sister. She looks just like Frankee only with white paws and a white bib. Buck held her and she is quite the little pistol. Nothing like Jasper.

They also go over everything before you sign the contract and I was told that if I decided Jasper wasn't working out, I could return him within the week. I told the gal "I wouldn't sit by the phone waiting for that phone call!" She laughed and said that's the response they love.

I'm very impressed with the Oklahoma Humane Societies group that operates out of Pets Mart. Very caring dedicated animal lovers! wub.gif

Congratulations! Waiting for a new hire is kind of like a first date! The anticipation was killing me as The Day approached!

Let me warn you about white-footed Siamese outcrosses. Nico, our first cat when we were married was one, but from a sealpoint parent.
And I know a Cat Lady who has rescued quite a few. You are in for a wild time and a very special cat, if Jasper follows the trends we have seen. They seem to incorporate the robust health and playful friendly attitude of the (heh) Felis Vulgarus with the intellegence and elegance of the Siamese.

Nico had a vocabuary that responded to 26 different words..One thing that annoyed me was that my wife trained her... "Nico, bite Jon". And she would hunt me and give me a nip.
She could jump up to the wall switch and turn off the lights...Unfortunately she often did it without being asked. She would fetch like a dog. She knew all the usual commands, like "Down", "dinner", "Bad Cat", "Good Girl", "Nico, Come", "Nico, Bed", etc.

She lived to be 18, but we lost her to FPL. It was 35 years ago but we never forgot her. When we visited her in the Animal Hospital she would go to the effort of raising her head, and purred, knowing that everything would be allright. She was surely older than that..we rescued her from a divorce situation. She lived with a Hippie Artist (This WAS the Sixties, remember) and ate what he ate (And the way she acted we always wondered what exactly she was given for "catnip"..). She loved potato chips and spaghetti and had formed bad dietary habits. Yes, she also recognized the word "Pig!" when she got caught stealing food. She used to ride in the hippy's MGB, with her claws dug into the top of the passenger seat, posed like The Sphinx.

I hope Jasper turns out like her! If so, you will have the experience of a lifetime and one you will never forget...Heehee.

I will try to scan some old pictures of her...she was so special!

Jasper is beautiful and brings back old memories.

What a gorgeous kitten!!!! Good for you and I LOVE the names of your cats. So lovely! How lucky are you!

So now you have 4 cats?

I have 3! lol. Sebastian is still indoors after 4 weeks, but the time is coming for him to start going outside. He gets his second set of vaccinations next week and I'm having him microchipped and then letting him out.
nickels
Yes we have 4 cats now.blink.gif Two elderly ladies that don't want to be bothered and that is part of the reason we adopted Jasper, for Frankee. They are inseprable. We took Jasper to the vet this morning because I found a lump on his thigh. I'm trying not to panic. Anyway I have a "ferret bag" that is perfect for a small kitten that Frankee has always used. We decided to take Frankee along for moral support. He's too big for the carrier but still loves squeezing in to it. Well Jasper took one look at Frankee in the carrier and decided there was room for him too. I couldn't believe it when he actually squeezed in and wouldn't come out. So I zipped it up and off we went! Goofy little boys. They love each other so much.

So if Jasper has to go in for surgery, we will be taking Frankee to stay with him. They panic if one doesn't know where the other one is. What a bond after only 5 days!

I'd love to see pictures of Sebastian when he discovers the outdoors. I love this age, and all the new discoveries.

I just love your story on Bono. What a sweet sweet baby. Your picture of him just melts my heart.

Gillian,

I meant the poem you wrote. I felt the same way, not being there for Nickels at the end. You really put your heart and soul into it. You can really feel the love you have for precious Bono.

Michelle,

Aw keep us updated on how Jasper is. Poor wee man. Good thing he's in good hands now anyway. And will get the treatment he needs. He's young and strong and I'm sure he'll be just fine.

Nichels was so handsome. And another gorgeous unique name. smile.gif I'm sorry for your loss. It's not something you ever really get over is it. It's like losing a son.

Yes, my lovely Bono. I miss him every day. I could get a thousand more dogs and cats and he'd still be my best boy.

Yes, Sebastian will be let outdoors in a few days time, after hes been to the vet, although I will still keep him indoors at nighttime for another couple of weeks. I'll take photos of him being released outdoors. He is showing signs that he wants out now. Staring outside a lot, rushing to the back door any time I open it to have a peek outside, sniff the air, and stare around in wonder. He sees my other 2 cats and my 2 dogs running outdoors, and seeing them go out is making him wonder why he doesn't get to go outside too. I'm not surprised though; hes been inside for over 4 weeks now and this is the longest I've ever kept a cat indoors. He's a great wee cat and doesn't give me any trouble indoors. But he's getting bored and lonely. Any time I leave him he cries till I come back, miawing sadly. Hes explored every corner of the house and played with all his toys, and I think he finds inside a bit boring now. So I feel sorry for him. I'm sure he's getting excited about going outside to catch his first fly or climb his first tree. I took him outside yesterday, just carried him and allowed him to stare around for a while, take in his new massive playground. smile.gif I also bought him a little blue reflective stretchy collar with a little bell and nametag on it; he thinks it's a perfectly horrid thing to wear, especially as he can't jump up on the older cats like he used to be able to cause they can hear him jingling along a mile off. smile.gif Of course no sooner had I placed his new collar on him, my other cat Sasha came strolling along down my driveway without her collar, and she's refusing to tell me where she might have lost it. smile.gif So I'll have to go back to the petshop tomorrow to buy her a new one. I swear my 3 cats go through collars like they do cat food. I think the cats are losing their collars by getting them caught in a branch or whatever, and then the collar stretches open so the cat can escape and doesn't get trapped. I really should stop buying the ultra expensive diamond studded collars. lol. Ah but I like my kitties to look pretty.

Anyway, keep us updated on Jasper, and I love the way your cats get along so well.

Love, Gill

Dearest Gillian,

Today we got a taste of what you are going through with Darcey. When Frankee didn't show up for breakfast, even after we called him, we blamed it on a nice sunny day and assumed he was in a window upstairs. When we didn't see him at all for a couple of hours, we searched the house. No Frankee. I started hyperventilating. We went outside and called and called for him. Still no Frankee. I went into panic mode. He's an indoor kitty and since he was left for dead at 3 weeks old outside, he avoids the outdoors like a plague. The last time I remembered seeing him was the night before and the dreaded thought of how far away he could have wandered brought me to tears.

Right before I went outside Jasper was following me and doing his classic, but rare, siamese yowl. Then Buck came in and Jasper kept running to the kitchen and yowling. Buck finally called me inside and said he thought he heard the faintest of meows. We got really quiet though Jasper was pacing in front of the kitchen sink and yowling.

Last night, I noticed the cupboard under the sink was open. I closed it...with Frankee inside! Poor guy, we were calling him for breakfast and he stared out through a crack in the door while the other 3 kitties munched down less than a foot away!

Little Jasper was trying to tell us where Frankee was though we didn't listen! "What boy?! Timmy's in the well?!" I'll be sure to pay more attention to Jasper in the future. When he has "stuff" to say, I'll pay more attention.

Now, if Jasper could find the battery charger for my camera!! Precious time is ticking away and I can't take any pictures!

Gillian, I check into your thread more than 3 times a day to see if Darcey is back. I've even been shopping on Ebay for engraveable pet tags for our furkids since she's been missing. I've always said that if Frankee ever gets lost, we'll have tons of people contacting us since he's just a plain old generic tabby cat. I'd rather have that than no one contacting us at all. The possible "Darcey sightings" are a blessing. She could very well just be a step ahead of you. Thank God for the people that are looking out for her. There are good people in this world and sometimes it takes a crisis to bring them out.

WHEN Darcey comes home, because I know she will, we need to start a Welcome Home Darcey Party Thread for her. We went to a party at our community pool house tonite. I asked everyone to think good thoughts and pray for her safe return. I just have this strong feeling she will be coming home soon.

Your always in my thoughts and Prayers Gillian. I know Darcey will be home soon.

Michelle
