i need to get this off my chest and i knew this would be the right place. i was driving with a friend when i saw a cat hit in the road right infront me. i screamed. we drove back around to see it closer. i stopped infront of it noticing it was a kitten. i swear i saw the tail move. i jumped out the car and went up to it. oh my god, it was a terrible sad sight. i dont even want to go into details. it had been hit in the head hard. i turned it over to check for a pulse or breathing but there was none. i realized he looked like my recently passed kitty acorn and i almost burst into tears. i didnt want to just leave him in the road. i moved him onto the sidewalk grass. my friend said i should bring him home and bury him in the yard so i put him in a plastic bag and did.he was still warm. as we were about to drive off we saw two kittens peak out lookin at the blood in the road and that killed us. we went home and my mom helped us bury him. so sad. me and my friend went back and saw there were 3 kittens and a mom that kept walking in the street. we lured them out with food. there was another who resembled my late acorn and still living teara so i grabbed him. he got so scared he put up a mean fight but i held on and put him in the car. he is now in my bathroom. im going to let him calm down. atleast i can save one kitten from that horrible death. i will never get the image of that poor kitten out of my head. it was terrible. we were all crying.

I am sorry to hear you had to witness such a horrible accident. Things to work in mysterious ways. Maybe it was all part of you meeting your new friend. Just so sad this kitty had to give his life for it. Do you have a name for the new kitty? It is really pretty. I am glad you can open your heart to a furbaby that needs you. Someday I hope to get a new furbaby. I just have not had a connection with one since my loss. Maybe someday.

Hugs and Good Luck to you both!!!!!

{{{{{Openhearted}}}}} How gosh awful terrible to have witnessed such a thing. I would have screamed, too. So dear of you to stop, check to see if the kitty was alive then take him home to bury him. God Bless You! It's very true that life does work in mysterious ways and this tragic accident brought you to your new fur baby. I hope you don't mind but I took the top photo to a program and cleaned it up bit to bring out the kitten's eyes and fur color a little better. What a darling fur baby!

Sweet Openhearted, you had the chance to do something and you did! As the song goes, "And when you get the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance!" That song came to my mind along with all the Many Blessings it bestows and I wish to give those Blessings to you and your new fur baby because "I Hope You Dance!" I sure do and Openhearted is exactly what you are! You Opened Your Heart and took a chance. Please turn up your volume and click on the "I Hope You Dance" Heart that I chose if you're able to view and hear videos. I wish this so much for you and the precious kitten you saved that so much resembles your Angel fur baby Acorn. I hope the frightened darling didn't scratch or bite you too badly with the fuss he made while you rescued him and took that baby into your home. This song reminds me so much of your courage and what a Treasure you are!!!

Please click on the "I Hope You Dance" Heart.

"I Hope You Dance"

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder.
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger.
May you never take one single breath for granted.
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed.

I hope you still feel small when you stand by the ocean.
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens!
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance.

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance ...
I hope you Dance!
I hope you Dance!

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance.
Never settle for the path of least resistance.
Living might mean taking chances but they're worth taking.
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth making.

Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter.
When you come close to selling out ...
Reconsider.
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance.

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance ...
I hope you Dance!

(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you Dance!
(Rolling us along)
I hope you Dance!
(Tell me who wants to look back on their youth and wonder where those years have gone)

Hi openhearted87

What a wonderful act of courage on your part. I am so sorry about that one little kitten. But I loved the picture of your new little kitten and somehow, and who knows why, this baby picked you to be his....Things happen and some of the reasons seem beyond our own comprehension. As I read your thread, I felt you had already started bonding to this little guy. He is beautiful. And I bet he gives you much happiness. Did you ever think you would ever get another kitten esp one you really did rescue off the street.

Good Luck
Joanne

thank you joanne.feels nice to be called courageous. i think the kitten is adorable but he/she is very scared and hasnt let me touch him/her. i wish every kitty could be as open to being loved as acorn was. i know there must be a reason the kitten who passed and this kitty resemble acorn. i am going back to college this sun. it would be nice if the kitten warms up to me so i can take him/her with me or find him/her a home if i cannot keep him/her. thank you for your kind words.

thank you for caring sissycat. i think acorn did lead me to these kittens to help save one and give the poor lil angel a respectable burial atleast. i wish the new kitten was as open to recieving love as acorn was. the kitten has been running and hiding. im not sure if we will keep him/her yet. we havent named him/her yet since i cant get close enough to see if it's a boy or girl lol. i hope she/he isnt too feral to bond with people. i hope you find a connection with other kitties or any animal. im sure you will. you have a big heart

Hi Corina, Gosh that is so awful. That's one of my biggest fears is that I'll do that to some poor kitty someday. So there was a mom cat and 5 kittens??? How sad is that. I would have called to find a resuce service and have them taken to a shelter if I couldn't get them all myself.. Did they belong to anyone??? Doesn't sound like it though. The one you saved is darling...Are you going to keep it?? Give us updates. Last year a mom racoon and 2 babies ran out in front of me. She made it, they did not. I was sick for weeks. Just when I was getting over it, what do I do, I killed another one. It's awful. I'm so sorry you had to see that. Like the others have said, who knows, maybe this could be something wonderful for you. But only if you can provide for it at this time. By the way, did you get that email I sent. I hope you weren't offended by it, that was not my intention..Keep us updated!..Hugs..Ann

thank you ann.its my fear to hit animals too. i thought i hit a bird because it flew under my car and i started to cry. my boyfriend tried to reassure me i didnt hit it. a young cat ran out infront me and i stopped dead there and honked until it ran away, good thing no one was behind me!im sorry you accidently hit those animals. i would have been upset too. it wasnt your fault though. i didnt even think of calling a rescue service. i know most kitties end up put to sleep in shelters. i'd hate to think i caused that. i dont think they belong to anyone because this kitten is so afraid of people right now. im not sure if i can keep him/her as of now. i would want to. i hope he/she warms up to people in time. thank you for your kindness. i got a message from you, it was all the postings you've made. was there something else i missed? hugs back ann

Dearest Openhearted, believe me that you did plenty! You did a whole lot more than most would, Dear One. Oh my, I'll bet he/she did get in a few scratches and bites. So glad to hear it was nothing too serious. It may take a while for him/her to calm down but you are the Perfect Angel with all the patience and love for this new fur baby.

Yes, it is indeed a most courageous thing for you to do! I know I already said this several times but I'm gonna say it again. I Hope You Dance! Both you and this precious, adorable fur baby. I Hope You Both Dance! I'm all teary eyed too cuz I'm Sooooo Proud of You!!!

thank you dottie. you have me teary again:)i hope you dance too! I have great news and an update for all that care. i went in the bathroom with the kitten, the silly thing was up in the shower curtain. i helped her down by letting her jump into the carrier.i was sitting with the kitten in the bathroom. i decided to bring in my momma cat teara who usually adopts babies. soon as i brought her in the baby ran up to her following her around and letting me pet her. teara wasnt happy with the baby so i let her out. after that the kitten started warming up to me. she let me pet her and she started purring! i picked her up and asked to see if she was a girl or boy and she put her lil backfoot toes into the air and i could see she was a girl ,im pretty sure. i wanted to cry because i said that i wanted a kitten that looked like acorn but a girl so i could name her almond. i want to keep her! i hope i can. she's meowing alot now but i hope she quites down so i can bring her in my college dorm. im so happy! thank you acorn.

Dearest Corina and your Angels, that is such great news! Before I say more, here is an enhancement of the other photo in your first post and enhanced photos of the others to lighten them up again in case you want to use them or save them to your files. The first rescue photo has sort of a "flashlight" effect. I love your kitten design shower curtains! Sooo adorable! Awww!

Here's the first day of rescue with the flashlight effect. You can see her precious face better. Awww!

Here's that "silly thing" up on top of your kitten design shower curtains. Awww!

With your my momma cat Teara checking each other out.

And sitting in your lap. Awww! She looks so contented!!!

Too bad that Teara isn't very thrilled with "Almond" if that's what you're going to name her but I'm so glad to hear she warmed up to you, let you pet her and purred. So wonderful if she is indeed a she and that's what you wanted: One that looks like Acorn but is female. It's like it was meant to be. Yes, I'm all teary, too. And I can't stop saying, "Awww! So Precious!"

Openhearted, you said she's meowing a lot now. I'm wondering if that's only when she's alone since you have to keep her separated from Teara because "Almond" (if you choose that name) looks quiet and contented in your lap being petted and she's purring. If that's the case, what you can do if you haven't already, it to put a toy or two with "Almond" as well as a stuffed toy which can serve as her surrogate mommy so to speak when she's alone. That may help bunches.

One of my past kitties would play with nothing except loved a small balled up piece of aluminum foil. LOL but true! And another kitty I had loved the plastic tabs that you have to pull from around a gallon of milk so the cap will come off. She would bat it around then cry if it got lost so I'd give her another one. Kittens can be very easily amused and soothed with toys of your own making. Perhaps you have a stuffed toy that's kind of flat that she could cuddle up to so won't feel so lonely when you're not there in the room to pet her? That really may help bunches to stop her meowing.

Hon, I think we're both Dancing right about now for your new fur baby! Awww! We sure are. God Bless You Most Abundantly! You and your fur babies are Treasures and you're a Wonderful, Courageous person!!!

thanks dottie! the enhanced photos look great. i was shining a flashlight on that darker one. last night she was crying non stop for about an hour looking around my room since i let her come in my room. she was being shy again since in a new place. she hid behind my dresser and hasnt come out or cried. i'm sure she will come out when she's hungry. a few years ago at college i had snuck in my kitty teara but she cried very loud whenever i left to class and someone turned me in so i had to send her home:( i used to leave music on for her and she would quite down when i put my bearded dragon lizard with her (the lizard thinks he's a cat lol) i'll share a pic of them together. i'd love to see almond's face again so i hope she comes out soon. thank you for all your sweet and touching words.

Hi there

Try not to worry about the little guy warming up right away. The kitten is very afraid. I would continue to leave him in the carrier for now. Feed him there and leave a litter box close by. When you feed him, talk to him. At some point, you can extend your hand out....but, be cautious....this little guy is in a whole new environment. And really whou wouldn't be scared esp after leaving their mommy. Spend lots of time just letting him hear your voice. I know when I got Whiskers, he was terrified at first. He went right under the bed. I tried to get him to come out....He wanted nothing to do with me. He even tried to smack me and hissed and acted like he was going to bite. Well, I fed him under the bed, I talked to him a lot....I got him toys too. It didnt take too long before he came out from under the bed. Then we had the howling period. That went on for a few weeks. I learned that was part of separation anxiety. Now if you saw whiskers, you wouldn't eve believe he is the same cat. Remember each baby is different. Its been very hard for me to learn that each little one reacts to me differently. So, just give him a chance to get to know you. You need to reassure him. He needs to learn about trust.....

take care
Joanne

thank you for your great advice joanne. each kitten is very different. i never know what to expect. last night she let me pet her and she started to purr. she even let me pick her and and she layed on my lap. i brought her in my room and she has been hiding after a long period of meowing. i have to be patient and wait for her to come out again. i never heard of a howling period but one of my other cats(teara) went through that when ever i left the room. now she is fine. thank you for caring

I just have to say I absolutely LOVE the shower curtain. I want one!!!!!!

Wishing you lots of luck with her.

Keep us posted.

Hi Corina, I just love that name Almond. She has the markings of a chipmonk almost. I thought of Alvin (Alvin and the chipmonks)but since she's a she....I do hope you keep her. I didn't realize you had teara. That's all Almond has been around, she's not use to humans. You need a lot of patients and time. She has to gain your trust. Arthur was the same way, very scared of people, always was. When we got him home he ran right under the chain. But a few toys, string works best, and after a few hours he forgot where he came from. I played with him everyday for as long as I could b4 work. (I did it for the next 2 1/2 yrs) He paid me back with lots of love....I propped up his memory box on the mantel and put more sylicone spray on his grave plaque, cleaned up the cross and trimmed the cat nip. Dave ran out to see it. I burst into tears on his shoulder. Saying how much I missed him and how much I wanted him back. He kind of chuckled and said "oh Ann"but that's as far as it went. I think its 'cuz I may have gotten him all teary eyed too...The email I tried to send(still not familar on how to do it) pertained to urn jewerly. I think you said you got Acorn cremated. I was checking it out for myself and found a site memorial-urns.com. The first piece was an Acorn and I imediately thought of you. I don't know if you'd be interested in something like that. I know it's not for everyone. It was a wee bit pricey though, but would be a great gift for someone to give you. You could put a little of his ashes in it. I know you also had Joshua. I always found it hard with my other kittys to not overshadow one. But I never got to keep anything of them. Not even a lock of fur. Just a few photos. That was it really. So again, You and Almond need time, patients, and string...Good luck I'm so happy your happy..Hugs to you and new friend..Ann

lol thanks about the shower curtain sissycat and i forgot to thank dottie about the curtain compliment too. my mom got it for me. i have to ask her where she got it lol. i wish timing was better. im going back to college this sunday which is 4 hours from home, coming back for the weekend then going back for a few weeks. i usually come home every 2-3 weeks. i'm hoping she becomes calm enough so i can bring her with me without being caught by security lol(no pets besides fish allowed). i am bringing my quiet kitty flower. i know after so much loss this summer i cant bear to be alone in a single room without the comfort of a kitty. i dont want to just leave almond here when i go because then she may never trust me. i dont know why she was given to me at this exact point in my life but i know there must be a reason and things will work themselves out, i hope! thank you for caring sissycat

your right we need time, patience and string lol. thanx for the smile. made me shed some tears as you mentioned how you thought of me when you saw an acorn. its nice that you thought of us. i will check that website out. it didnt come through on the email i'd gotten. is that the kind of jewelry you can put ashes in and wear? ive heard of that. sounds really nice.ive heard of something that can turn ashes into a diamond like substance you can put in jewelry also. that sounds special and most likely pricey too:) i know what you mean about feeling like one lost angels overshadows another. i feel bad about that too but i think its so hard that we can only deal with the most recent pain first. we do love them all. i regret that i never had more to remember kitties by in the past too.i wish digital cameras were in my life sooner. thats sweet that you have a memory box and take care of his memorial. its funny that i pick up some cat toys and feathers to sit next to the two urns and then the other cats want to play with it. they sneak up there and take them and play with them. i cant even be mad because i know acorn is probably watching them play and being happy to see them enjoying something he once enjoyed.thank you for your kindness ann.

thank you kim. i want so much for her to be my "almond" but there are so many obsticles at this time. sometimes she is affectionate but most of the time she is hiding or running scared. i go to college tomorrow and come back thurs-mon. right now i can see i will be able to only bring flower. hopefully my mom can warm the baby up and then later she can come with me. my dad will be so angry if he sees i brought in another cat, thats another obsticle. i hope things work out.if she was only quite and scared that could work out in school but she is still meowing very loud when she comes out. i want to do whats best for the baby.thank you for caring

Hi there

Just stopped by to see how your new little bundle is doing. Sounds like she is starting to trust you. When she hides if under the bed, I know that I spent many hours talking to Whiskers. He did come around. At first, I didnt know how to handle him. But as time goes on, the bonding does develope. Each place she goes for the first time, is new and strange. She has to get use to your room too. She is getting better. Look at far you two have come.

take care
Joanne

thank you joan for sharing some hope with me. she is hiding at the moment lol. it means alot to me that you care.

Hi

It always nice to see a post and know that other reply. Its been very hard for me this past year. I lost three cats within three months to kidney disease. But, I had a monster vet who did nothing and cut their lives short. I spent a lot of time dealing with my own guilt issues. And then we switched vets and charlie got very sick with fatty liver....I adopted two more kitties and one has allergies and its been rough dealing with it. So, I know when people stop by my thread and offer me advise or just to let me know they are still reading it and responding, helps me too.

I have found that kitties are generally in control. They let us know when they are ready. I guess we have to accept them on their terms. I know that your kitten will be ok. And for some reason, I sense that the two of you need each other more than you both realize now. Just talk to her and pet her. Remember everything to her now is so strange.

Good Luck
Joanne

thank you joanne. im sorry you lost so many in such a short time. that must be so hard. some vets can be so insensitive and uncaring. my sister is a vet tech. from the stories she's told me i would only trust her with my pets. you were trying to get them help. they must know that you wanted them to be happy and healthy. they wouldnt hold anything against you. i have to remind myself of that at times. you arent alone.i dont have any pets with me in college yet but this weekend i will bring some up. i decided it was best for the kitten to stay home with my mom and i can see her when i visit which i do about every 2 weeks or so. thank you for caring.

Hi corina

You hit the nail on the head about what goes on when we arent around. I know the place I go to now is pretty good with the animals. Mario use to like to go there and visit with everyone. You know Rassy cat use to shake when I took him to the monster. I wish I had been paying more attention to his needs. These kitties dont shake when I take them in. And Charlie cat seems to like the male vet. He did save his life and pull him through. This place also has four clinic cats of their own.

Mario sure seems to sleeping a lot. He did move around quit a bit today. And he ate well. so, after what you told me about the murmur, I am going to stay positive. And with all the stress going on, I am going to try and do better around my kitties too. Its hard to leave your babies when you go off to school. Seems we just get addicted to them.

I hope your baby is doing better and getting adjusted to your room and now your mom.

thanks
Joanne

im glad you found a better place. that's cute that they have clinic cats. my sis's place has some too. they are often the blood donors. it helps to try and be as positive as possible. it is hard going to school without my loves. i miss them alot. they become family and close friends, i agree they are addicting lol. the little kitten is still shy with me but is coming out alot more now. she even played with a feather toy i was holding.im going to bring my cat flower to school and hope i dont get caught.thank you for the hope. also i'll bring either 1 rat (flower's friend hizache) or that one plus a few others that were born this summer. also i'll bring my bearded dragon lizard who thinks he's a cat lol.he sleeps with the cats.my parents brought up 2 of my fish in a fishbowl when they came down. it will be nice having them around. thank you for caring. im glad i could help with some info about heart murmurs. my heart is with you

UPDATE: my angels have brought another kitten into my life to save. i was getting ready to drive back from ny to ma for college from my bf's house. he told me i should go get my car out the parking lot and put it in a spot closer to his apt so we could pack my stuff easier. i went there. the guy went to get my car for me and told me i could sit down in a little enclosure thing. he came in and placed a tiny kitten on the floor at my feet saying he wanted to save it. it was too lil to eat on its own. he put a bowl of milk down telling the other guys he felt bad for it. the poor thing was wobbling around and falling and crying. i asked if he was keeping it. he asked if i wanted it. i told him my sis was a vet and could help. he was happy i took it and told me to give him pics when he grows up lol. i couldnt leave him there. i asked my bf who has never had a pet ever to watch him for me then bring him to my mom's house so my sis can adopt him out when he was old enough. he agreed. his mom bought a baby bottle even. he had the baby until yesterday then brought him to my mom. the kitten had seemed very wobbly and only dragged his back legs and hit his head on things yet he was a sweetheart. we had a lil worry but was hopeful. my mom has him now and thinks that the kittens shaking feet at times and not being able to use back legs could be brain damage. she talked to my sis and my sis said it could be alot of things like him being premature, injured, neglected by mother, anything. she will check him out next week thurs. my mom said the kitten gets excited and wobbly when he sees her and purrs the whole time. my boyfriend learned that special needs kitties need love too from the experience. i hope he can get better and atleast walk. we have a special needs kitty named tiger who wobbles around and shakes as well as having 1 eye and he is very happy. im trying to keep hope for this little gray and white baby boy. i dont believe there is any such thing as a coincidence. i believe he was sent to me.we have some special angels watching over us

Your angels must think you are the best mom in this whole world. They know you will never ever neglect a little one and sent this sweetheart to you for care. Somehow, I think he's going to be alright. I love his markings, that little whitestripe on his head, like a spike. (cute name, no?)He's darling. Keep us updated, and send more pix..Ann

UPDATE:

last sunday my mom called and told me my cat chestnut looked near death. he and i got close after acorn passed. he is around 15 yrs. i went home the next day to see him, 4 hours away in NY. my sis who is a vet tech was there and couldnt tell what was wrong with him so she took him home with her. we all went to her home for the day in CT. she also checked out the lil gray kitten and confirmed he was special needs and needed alot of therapy so he might learn to walk and hold himself up. that night i returned home without chestnut and spent time with the kitten. my sister said chestnut wasnt as critical as my mom thought. he did have his mouth open and was drooling with his tongue out. he couldnt close his mouth. i went back to school and she told me the vets said he had a problem with a very bad rotten tooth and that was all that was. he closed his mouth. they removed the 2 bad teeth and he's on meds. my sister said they found a lump on his belly and we were worried it was cancer but it turned out to just be scar tissue from a previous surgery. my angels really gave us a miracle. my sis had the lil gray kitten with her yesterday to have him checked. they ran tests and the only thing it could be is that he must have fallen or gotten crushed somehow. he is on some meds too. i got to see the 1st little shy rescued kitten. she let me pet her while she ate. my mom said she let her pet her too. i wish i could see them all more. im back at school now and i miss them all. im glad they are ok though. thanks for caring.

the first kitten (almond, i kept that name:) is so lovable now my mother tells me. i cant wait to see her again when i finally go home to NYC from college in MA for thanksgiving. she says almond trips her up trying to rub on her legs and get attention lol. the 2nd kitten which is nicknamed twitch still cannot walk but he is getting more strength in his legs and still is as playful as ever. my sister and mom gave him some toys. i got to see him when my mom brought him with her to my sister's home in CT when i went to see her baby (im an aunt now!) .chestnut (grandpa chessy) had a tooth removed and is back to his old self again. all is alright with them. thank you all for caring.
