Hi
I just found your website recently. I have a little kitty I call Rocky and he is 6yrs old. I took him to the vets because he was acting strangely and I thought he had a sore mouth. But I got a shock of my life to find out he was dying.
Well my husband and I are going to put him down Saturday. It breaks my heart...as we raised him from 1 day old. He was from a stray mom. He was like having a newborn...I am still in shock.
Just can't believe this is happening.
We taught him to do almost everything. And I found out it is contagious and I have another cat that has been with Rocky since we got him. Have to get Tippy tested but he seems to be healthy and happy so not in any big rush.
Just so thankful I found this website.
Thanks for listening to me.

I am so sorry to hear about Rocky. I am glad you had him for 6 years...each year and each day is a blessing. My 3 kittens were born to a feral mom in 1991 in my backyard and I did get them tested immediately for these diseases that appear out of the blue. They were clean and so I had them until 2002, 2006, 2007.

Saturday will be very hard for you and your husband. I don't know about leukemia but there is no harm in getting Tippy tested ASAP.
It would be worth it to have it off your mind and not hit you all of a sudden, in case there is something to be concerned about.
I believe it is a simple blood test. I'm sure your vet will be glad to answer any questions you might have about Tippy catching the disease.

It sounds as though Rocky cannot be helped and I am so very sorry for that. He deserved many more years. All we can do is make sure they do not suffer. When there is no cure or help and their quality of life is not good anymore...the kindest thing and the hardest thing we can do is let them go.

I lost my Little Guy to cancer in September and it was only a few weeks before that..he was also acting happy and healthy..but when it appeared he did have a problem...it was just too late.

My prayers are with Rocky and you and your husband.....I will be thinking of all of you Saturday.

i'm so sorry. more than 8 years ago me and my family lost 2 syblings bro and sis at 1 year old from the same thing. we had them since they still had their eyes closed. their mom left them so our neighbors gave them to us. we all bottle fed them and got so attached. they were the sweetest. we got the sad news and first the female freckles passed then bootsie the boy. during that time we found an adorable kitten we named sammy. sammy became best friends with bootsie. we were broken hearted to find out sammy caught feline leukemia from them. he lived a few more years than passed as well. such sweet angels are claimed by this disease. you are not alone. last month i lost my baby acorn to feline infectious peritonitis at only 1 year old 4 days after he was diagnosed. i would say that you should make every day with rocky full of love and special. i wish you the best. this is the tribute i made for acorn and all my angels. i hope you can find comfort in knowing you arent alone. that helps me go on.

I am so deeply sorry. I too lost a cat of lukemia. It was long ago. I had moved out and my Dad kept her for me. However, he had her put down without my knowledge and not being there with her gave me a nervous breakdown. 17 years has passed since then and I still think about it often. I had to put my Arthur down Jun 8. I tried to be strong, it was one the hardest things I ever had to do, but it needed to be done to end his suffering. At least you have another. That will help with the pain of it all. My heart goes out to you and your husband. ann

I see you quoted what I wrote but I didn't see your reply. Did you mean to tell us something about how you are doing or feeling?

We are always here listening.

This is a very very devastating time but we are here if you wish to talk about your feelings and thoughts.

Take Care...I wish you peace and healing.
