Full Version: Oprah Winfrey Show This Coming Friday
Lightning-Strike Pet Loss Support Forum > Pet Loss Support > Death and Dying Pet Support

My husband came home today and told me he heard on the radio that Oprah Winfrey is dedicating her show this coming Friday, April 4th for those who are grieving and looking for support and healing in their losses. Oprah lost her 13 year old ##er Spaniel and expresses much love and gratitude for having had this furlove. This is Oprah's second loss of a much loved furangel. My understanding is that besides addressing the kind of bonds we have with our pets and the grief that accompanies our losses of them, she will also be addressing the issues I often hear about in this forum regarding the people who just don't understand.

If you are able to watch it, and I hope all of you are, my hope is that it will be a very rewarding show to see for all of us who also mourn the passing of our precious furangels.

Let's support her as well and comfort her in her loss by giving her a chance to speak about this topic by turning her show on this coming Friday.

Much love to all...................Beth wub.gif

Thanks Beth! I sure hope I can watch it. Thank your husband for us, too. So sweet that he thought of you and all of us when he heard that radio spot.

I am really hoping that we all find Oprah's show rewarding. Please pass this info to everyone you can think of. Since it is tomorrow and I just found out last night I am praying that a large number of writers here see it.

I hope everyone who is able to watch may find something they need to help mend their broken heart.

HUGS and much love to all of you! wub.gif

Thanks, Beth, for the information. I will look to see if I can tape the show so I don't worry about missing it.

I see on the news everyday how people losing their homes through foreclosure just abandon their animals, some are even left tied up in the yard with no food or water.
I guess to some maybe animals are what? a convenience? a status symbol?

What kind of conscience could ever do such a thing to an animal or any pet? Realtors are telling stories of people leaving fish to die. Now wherever someone moves, I could never believe fish would not be allowed.

There apparently isn't a creature too small to be left to die. Too bad all creatures don't have adoption rights to protect them.

So sad but true Judy. sad.gif

I am signing off for the night and wanted to update more details I have heard about Oprah's show tomorrow. Apparently a puppymill investigation will reveil their findings and how it changed Oprah forever.

My hope is that many of you that I love so much will be sitting and watching Oprah's show tomorrow with me. May it provide us all with a little bit of understanding and prove yet another source for growth and inspiration.

Sorry to be a hog and keep this topic on the top, it's just that I don't want anybody who is in need of help to miss an opportunity to see it.

Much love to all of you. smile.gif Beth

sad.gif At first I was disappointed in what I thought the main topic was to be. The radio advertisement aired did not say it would be so graphic but made it sound more like comfort. I came close to turning it off as I was finding it very depressing.

Then I said to myself..............there must be something I can learn from this show. And there was. My heart was not leaning toward looking for a new addition to our family from a rescue center. Truthfully, I wasn't even considering adoption.
Now I am seriously considering visiting these rescue shelters.

Before watching Oprah's I would never have considered the idea. Though the focus of her program was not what I had expected, it definately broadened my mind. I hope the message reached thousands of viewers who have never known the love a pet can bring were touched and perhaps open their minds in considering adopting a furlove who has never known love. All of us here have so much love in our hearts and we want others who don't understand to feel that love.

I am going to write to Oprah and ask her about doing a show focused more on the healing aspects and grief we all need so much help with and see what she says. If I do get an answer from her I will share it with all of you.

I'm sorry the show was not more about the topic I had expected to watch. But I am grateful that it did give me a different prospective in thinking about where to look for a new furlove to bring into our loving home.

Love to all....................Beth

Hi Beth,

That show is still haunting me today. I was crying the whole time and am still choked up today. I also hope that the message reached millions.

You are truly a very enlightened individual to draw out the true lesson of the show and to realize that there was a reason for you, personally to watch it. I am glad that you are thinking about an addition to your family. I think a furbaby would be so lucky to become a member of your loving home. Good luck with your decision and of course, we all love to see more entries in the New Beginnings forum. Let us know what happens.

Take care,
Stephanie

Beth: I had taped the show so I wouldn't miss it but before I watched the tape I came here and when I read your post , I decided if it was that depressing it was better for me not to watch it. I have a terrible time watching depressing stories about animals.
If someone mistreats one, my husband cuts it out of the paper so I don't even see the headline because I get too upset particularly knowing I can't solve those problems.

It's bad enough I have been reading about foreclosures leaving people leaving their pets and just moving out by themselves. Even some realtors find dogs tied to trees in a backyard, no food or water. I can't help them but I can scream in pain inside.

So I'm sorry after reading your post, I just chickened out but I am always glad these things are made public because there are people who have influence and money and can help in some of these situations and I always hope they are watching. Actually Oprah does fall into that category so I am glad she is involved. She definitely has money and influence.

Thanks for posting the show was to be on. We need to know something like that is available to see.
