I have been feeding a stray cat I named Stealth for nearly 2 years now. I keep food and water in a corner of my garage and keep the garage door open about a foot so Stealth can enter/exit as he pleases.
The other night I went out into the garage and bumpped into Fred. He is an opposum that has made himself at home with in my garage with Stealth. He was scared and backed off into a corner to hide. I assured him I wouldn't hurt him and did my thing and went back in the house.
Last night I bumpped into Fred again and was able to get a good picture which is attached.
I know winters are very tough on opposums so I hope I can help the little guy survive the winter. So now I have 2 cats (one indoor and one stray) and 1 opposum. Can't wait to see what animal I bump into in my garage next

How cute! Very nice of you to take care of this little one. A lot of people don't like opossums and they really need help sometimes in the winter.

Oh, hee-hee-hee-hee-hee!!

How sweet! (both this little guy AND you!)
The deeper we look into nature, the more
profoundly we realize that all life is valuable
and that we are united to all life.
From this knowledge comes our
spiritual relationship to the universe.
~ Albert Schweitzer~You're walking the walk with your kindness! Maybe one day you'll even find Fred and Stealth curled up together....

Wow, I love your ways, that opposum is lucky! I keep two sets of infra red lights in the barn for my barn cats, one night i peeked through the window and a skunk was lying under the lights right by the cats! I figured since we keep these cats for rodent control and skunks chase mice too I cwould just let it be, the cats didn't seem to mind. It didn't come back the next night but I was glad I just let her be, poor wild animals, winter must be very harsh for them, whatever we can do to help them without confining them must be so appreciated. Perhaps the opposum and Stealth will keep each other warm

You are being such an angel to these poor beasts, surely they say prayers for you.

Wow I just think you are so lucky to get so close to a beautiful wild animal. What a great picture of him! He now has the best chance to make it to spring, and you both have a new friend :-)

Fred enjoyed a nice slice of pizza from Pizza Hut tonight...
I have two bowls out there now, one for Stealth and one for Fred.
Stealth always comes early, right when it starts to get dark. Fred comes in a couple hours later... it would be so cool to see them eating their food side by side.

I emailed the picture to a friend that has worked at the human society for a long time (the person I adopted Simba II from) and she said that it looks like the opossum is about a little over a year old and is a female...
So I guess Fred needs to be renamed to Fran... LOL

Huh! How can they tell just from a picture? Are the males' privates usually that
obvious, if you know what I mean????

I have no idea... maybe I'll just keep the name Possum...

Or maybe you just need one of those gender-neutral names.......like Terry, or a strictly animal-type name like Poof or something?

Speedy
I bumpped into him/her again today and he/she ran out of the garage and ran pretty fast. I didn't think opossums could run that fast! LOL

Oh I like Speedy. Hey how fast could you run if you were scared? LOL
I think Fred works fine for a boy or a girl :-)
