Here is the little guy I fell in love with at the shelter.

They have agreed to hold him for me. I am going to officially adopt him on Saturday, then he will go back to his foster home for the next 4 weeks until I move.
I am so excited! Isn't he just gorgeous?
I need name suggestions! His name is Toby but I don't care for that and want to change it. I don't think he knows his name anyways, lol.
I'd like to keep the two syllables and the Y sound, so something that's similar to To-by would be nice. Any suggestions?

OMG he is so beautiful! Beyond gorgeous. He looks a lot like Majik. I can't tell you how happy I am for you, both. He's going to a great home. Four weeks isn't long.
Name wise, lets see....

Thank you! I can't wait to bring him home. I should be able to visit him a couple times in the foster home.
I'll add your names to the list

He is just so beautiful. He's about 6 months old. I think they had him as a kitten so I should be able to get some idea of a general birth date for him, then I can just pick one.
My bf wanted a short hair cat and I wanted long, but he is a perfect compromise with medium length fur
I think Alley would have liked him.

Thank you John!
Its still one month until he is truly mine, but I'm so excited. It doesn't lessen my grief for Alley, but it does give me something positive to think about.
I hadn't planned to get a cat that looked like Alley, but I can't help it when I think the black fluffy kittes are the most beautiful!

May 30 2007, 10:42 AM
It will never lessen that grief for Alley, of this I can be sure. I also know that you aren't getting that kitten to replace Alley. That is just not possible and we both know that. You are getting the kitten becasue that little tyke DESERVES YOU. You are someone to look up to in the forum because of your great compasion. That kitten does not realize yet how luckey it is. BUT IT WILL!!!!
Chaos, my little talisman
May 30 2007, 06:07 PM
He is absolutely gorgeous! I think that it is a lovely tribute to Alley that your new kitty looks like her. I too adopted the same type cat after losing Chaos. He was a Chocolate Point Siamese, and my new little one is the same breed. With Chaos, I just fell in love with the breed for so many reasons. So it makes sense that I would try to keep that in my life, since I can no longer have Chaos (other than in my heart). It's the same with you. He is indeed a lucky little guy to have you waiting to be his momma. Let us know when you're able to take him home when you move.

I'm at a loss for names right now....but, I'll let you know if I can think of any.
The photo of your precious new baby in a red bucket with a shovel nearby is priceless!!
I know that you're all going to have a blessed time!

It will be the end of June/first of July before I can take him home, but I will see him this Saturday at the petsmart shelter before his foster mama takes him home, then I'm hoping she will let me come over a couple times to visit him during the coming weeks.
I'm thinking of Riley for a name. Do you guys like that?
AlleysMama
May 31 2007, 11:29 AM
Wow, that's a lot of names!
Smokey and Hershey are previous family cats and I know someone already with a cat named Loki so that's out.
I'm really thinking of going with Riley. not sure where I came up with it, just popped into my head!

I did it! I adopted him yesterday, so now I officially have a kitty

He won't be coming home with me for almost 4 weeks though, after the move. I think I am going to go with Riley for his name.
I'll be visiting him Tuesday after work, so I'll take pictures!
I got his paperwork and they estimate his birthday as December 15th which is just a few days after Alley died. The strange part is that he was found at a roadside dump with his siblings in North Carolina and somehow through a chain of people ended up at the shelter here! I really think maybe Alley had a paw in this!

Riley is a great name for him, kind of like the phrase (Life Of Riley) , life of lounge and leisure (which all our furbabies have

) He is a very lucky boy , he will have a great home...and person to cuddle with.
Congratulations !!!

Riley, That name fits purrfectly! Black cats are so cool! I grew up with one. And I'm SOOO happy for you! After losing my Leo I wasn't sure that getting another cat was a good idea. But Cosmo has helped make the pain a little easier to handle. I'm very pleased to see that you have another furry baby. You really helped me and the wife when we lost our cat and it makes me extremely happy to see you have a new cat too! Riley is a very lucky to have you! After all they own us, At least they think so. And its that the way it should be.

I don't have internet at home yet so can't upload any pictures, but I have taken lots of them!
Riley is SUCH a little monster!

He has been sleeping with us at night most of the time. He has a little black furry mousie that he carries around everywhere and sometimes plays with that in the bed at night! He is already settling in nicely. Of course I had to show him all the pictures of his big sister Alley as I was unpacking them to hang on the walls.
Even though he resembles her in looks, his personality is so different. He'll never be able to replace my baby girl, but he's a joy to have around. I'll post some pictures as soon as my internet is going at home.

I'm just so happy to hear he's home and you all are having fun! Majik loves the mousie too, he carries it around. His is gray. You must be so happy to have a fur baby to love again, in your home and bed.
I'm so happy for you both!

Oh Riley is beautiful! I have a black cat whose name is Majik. (I think MooseMom has a Majik also.) I thought my spelling was unique, I guess not! The first time I took him to the vet they didn't know how to pronounce it - they called him
Ma-heek, like the "J" was an "H".
Congratulations on your new addition!

Here are a few new pictures of Riley. He is settling in well. Had a scare last weekend and took him to the vet but it turned out to just be hairballs and he is doing fine now.
I think I will likely be overprotective and worry over every little sneeze, but I think that's normal after losing Alley so painfully. Monday was the 7 month anniversary of Alley's death and it was very hard to deal with.

He is getting so big already! He weighs seven pounds now and he's not quite seven months old yet. I think he's going to be a big boy

Thanks for letting us see him!

AllysMama, do you find this new one is helping your healing process? Is it awkward sometimes?
Great looking cat. Are you still dicovering little traits that Riley has? Any that you have never seen in any cat before? I think that is the funnest thing about bringing taking one in, especially the kittens as the are discoverying new things about the world.

Riley looks a lot like Alley but his personality is completely different.
THe one thing he won't let me do is rub his belly and I miss that, because Alley loved it and would roll over and let me pet her for hours. I have slipped and almost called him Alley a couple times, and that upset me.
It does help to have him around though. He is still a playful kitten but I'm hoping when he gets older he will be more loving and cuddly. He definitely helps to fill the loneliness though.

I was waiting nearly every day for the new pictures of Riley at home
he is so absolutely cute,
I thank You for the wonderfull pictures
he is just a perfect little kitty
I am living in a small country in Europe, but you can tell, cats are all over the world the same and different also.
they are just adorable personalities, loving to sit on a newspaper, getting water from odd places they should not, even "work" at the PC, but, a few sleep in the bed, a few purr loudly, others are lying in your arms all night, some are very speciall about touching them
but we all love them, don`t we..........love E.

I really wish I had started coming to this forum sooner......I almost missed the story & photos of your sweet furbutt Riley! How gorgeous he is!!!! Truly....he is a gem.
No....he isn't Alley, no other will ever be. But Riley has his own sweet little ways, his little quirks....I guarantee they will grab hold of your heart & before long you will wonder what life would be like if you guys hadn't found each other.
I am so happy for you all

........I think Riley has found himself a perfect forever home, & will be showered with so much love he will soon forget the shelter life he came from.
Thanks so much for all your support. I'm looking forward to updates & more photos!!!!

I really like the pics and am glad to see more every so often. You are very fortunate and I am glad.
There is still a flea issue where I am living. It isn't as bad as before Spike was here but, I'd never ever bring another feline here. So it for me it is hard to look at cats and kittens, or even small dogs and be unable and unwilling to adopt them right now.
Hence my gladness for you and your new little friend. Again, I hope to see more pics posted. I wish the activity within New Beginnings were as frequent as the other sections. I hope one day they will be.
I haven't many beacons of hope right now, but seeing and reading about this New Beginning is one more.
Thank you for posting these pics.
