While I'm bringing things to Penny at the shelter during her final days, they're letting me play with the other dogs to help me feel better. One of the guys is Buddy, a 1 year old Boxer mix. He had a home, but they couldn't keep him, so there he is at the pound. Because he's half Boxer, he's thin to begin with. But being at the shelter for 3 weeks has really stressed him out and now he's skin & bones.

When people would come in to look at dogs, I would tell them how nice Buddy was, but they were all worried about how skinny he was and how dull his fur was. So I decide to take him home overnight to give him a bath and evaluate his behavior to help him get a home faster. He's totally perfect! No behavior problems at all. So I took him to the vet to see if his health was ok. Other than being underweight, he's fine. He was a very good boy for his bath and at the vet.

The whole family, including Marley, fell in love with him. We all talked about it quite a bit. Penny hasn't even been put down yet. But then again, poor Buddy's been there for 3 weeks! Dogs usually aren't stuck there that long. But his skinniness is just not attractive. We all decided that what was going on with Penny was bad enough. We didn't want this great dog to have to live there for one more day!!! So we adopted him. wub.gif

Oh Buddy is so handsome! I was wondering when I read you brought him home for 'one night' if you would be able to take him back. I know I couldn't have done it. He is wonderful and now he has a great forever home with you. Like Simba's daddy said, he won't be underfed for long!

Our little Majik was underfed with a dull coat too. People do dismiss them because of it. He was the last of a litter. It didn't take us a week to have a kitty with a very round tummy and a shining coat. He was also very dirty and had matts up his backside. It's so easy to fix those things.

I'm wishing you years of love, you and Buddy deserve them! No more prison for Buddy!

I really was planning on taking him back! I was writing up a sign for his kennel so everyone would know what a find he was and everything. Here's what it said:

- Very loving
- Excellent temperment
- Only barks once when someone walks in front of house
- Loves car rides
- Good for baths & toe nail clips
- Fast learner!
- Likes to play with other dogs
- 100% potty trained - will wake you up at night if he really has to go

SEE! He was going to go back! I just advertised him so well that I sold him to my own family! biggrin.gif

And he does have that little "Cookie Monster" face. That worked in his favor too...

Buddy & I stopped at the shelter today to drop off some more treats for Penny. While we were sitting there, 3 DIFFERENT FAMILIES ASKED ME IF HE WAS AVAILABLE!!! Where the heck have they been for the past 3 weeks?!? Too bad -- their loss!

Buddy & Marley are happy ex-cons together!

Congrats V,

May you have a long and happy life together.

I know that Penny is probably not the last troubled dog you extend yourself to, but I'm thrilled that you have found one that is easier on your heart.
