My Friend
I've known you forever
Now and again cloaking yourself in fur and feather

You have held the heart of me deep in your eyes
The heart of secret places
The place where comfort unfolds
The place where joy tumbles down to hold the broken pieces of me

Oh, how I do not want to let you go
My soul screams in the harsh places that you are so eager to soothe
Even through your pain, you hold me in our private dance
Lifting me on your bright, strong spirit
I can't dance without you
I also can't hold you to your pain

In the moment that you go
I see an exquisite glimpse, in your eyes that I know so well
The endless sunlit dance of the Summerland
Running and flying and tumbling
Herding the wind
Stalking the moonlight
Catching the scent of rain and fresh grass and sun warmed stone
The place where comfort unfolds

Run, my friend
And hold me in your spirit
So that I can come to you
In the places my dreams go, and when I am done with this dance
And herd the wind
And stalk the moonlight
And be with you, now and again
In the exquisite dance of the Summerland

Oh, Dawn......that is such an achingly beautiful poem you wrote! So much so, that I took the liberty of reading it aloud to my sweet Nissa, too....I hope you don't mind me 'stealing' it this way. Please take this as the compliment it's meant to be. And I hope the poetic part of your soul can help you heal.

Dear Dawn ~~

Your poetry brought me to tears, as I read what you wrote about your beautiful Jake, I also thought of my beautiful Caesar, who I said goodbye to two and a half months ago. You are not alone in your pain, please know that. I miss my baby beyond all measure and the life I have now is one with a whole lot less sparkle in it. The Wheel of the Year turns. A new life... a new kind of lonliness I never knew could exist. Thank you for sharing your wonderful poem, and for sharing the picture of your adorable Jake. What a beautiful dog he is! I also know that my Caesar is romping in the Summerland, with the Shining Ones, and when the time comes for us to see eachother again, the happiness we will then feel will also be beyond measure. Blessed be to you, and to your lovely Jake.

Dawn,

What an absolutely lovely poem and such a fitting tribute to your special boy. Thank you so much for sharing it with us here.

A very moving and loving tribute to your baby. Thank you for this. I love to think of my baby in the Summerlands. It does comfort me to know I will 'meet and know and remember and love them again'. In this life or another. When I think of rainbow bridge, I never think of it going to heaven. I think of it going to the Summerlands. "The gray rain curtain of this world slips aside, and all turns to silver glass. And beyond a far green country, under a swift sunrise".

Oh Moosie baby, play happy till mommy can find you.

Blessed Be
