This may be a little strange but I am posting a tribute not to a furkid but to the former owner of one. I hope you will see why by the end of this.
Mrs. King was in her 80's but was a very feisty and active nature photographer who had a gallery in town where she sold her beautiful photographs. As she reached her upper 80's she began having memory problems. Mrs. King had 2 cats. One of them had advanced cancer and had to be put to sleep. The next week she had forgotten she ever owned this cat. Her other cat, Snooky, who was once her closest companion, was also forgotten for days at a time, not being fed or watered. Mrs. King finally had to go to a nursing home to live and her little dilute calico Snooky was given to our rescue group by a friend so we could find her a good home. Due to Snooky's age and her scared behavior when caged, no one wanted her so my wife and I adopted her in September.
Occasionally Mrs. King would ask friends about her Snooky so we took a photograph of Snooky to her. We tried to console her with tales that showed Snooky was in a good home. When she looked at the photo Mrs. King burst into tears and said "That's my best friend!" We followed up with a couple of visits with Snooky to see her. She would have trouble sometimes remembering who Snooky was at first but a light would eventually come into her eyes and you could tell that she suddenly remembered. She would pet Snooky and Snooky would nuzzle and lick her hand.
Three weeks ago Mrs. King said goodbye to Snooky for the last time. Her health began failing and she passed away peacefully today.
To honor the love that she felt toward her little Snooky we will always take the best care of her. Many people don't understand that a furkid bond can be strong enough to even transcend memory loss, ailments, old age, and death. I know that most of you know this, though. You demonstrate it every day through your posts here. I just wanted you to meet a person who had a very special bond with her beloved Snooky.
