About a year ago I found great support from this forum after the death of my beloved cat, Stevie. Last September, a stray cat found me. I brought him in, had him vaccinated and neutered. About two months later, he nearly died and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. Last night when I got home from work--he was fine. Two hours later, he was dead. He had a saddle thrombus (as a result of the cardimyopathy). I rushed him to the vet, his legs were paralyzed. He then started panting and the vet recommended putting him to sleep. I feel like there was something else I should have/could have done. He was such a sweet boy and brought me so much joy. His name was Ketty. Now, I'm struggling with whether to have him buried in a pet cemetery next to Stevie or at my parents' house (where I would want to be buried if I could choose). Any thoughts on burial preference or history with cardiomyopathy?? My dogs (Cleo and Abbie) are devastated at losing their second sibling. I guess I made the best decision I could at the time.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Ketty. He was very lucky to have found you, and have a loving, happy home for the rest of his life. You took very good care of your baby, and made the right decision for him at the end, IMO. He wouldn't have had much quality of life with his legs paralyzed, and his breathing so bad. My vet had told me that panting was one thing to look for when I was trying to figure out how much longer I had with my Schtoobing.

As for burial, both places would offer Ketty a loving family member nearby. No matter which place you choose, Ketty will always be in your heart.

Tracy,I can't tell you how to decide on where to bury your beloved kitty but I can say that I buried my kitty Sox in our backyard garden and it gives me alot of peace knowing he's near and that I can visit his grave site whenever I want to.I'm so sorry you lost your kitty but he brought you much joy while he was with you and you made the right decision to put him to sleep.He would not have had a good life not being able to use his back legs.My heart goes out to you and I hope you will continue to post here and let us know how your doing.My prayers are with you tonight.Sincerely,Renee (Sox's mom)

I am sorry to hear of your loss, and I wish you all the comfort and peace. Try not to feel any guilt you were a wonderful loving momma and Ketty knew that. Life is just a strange thing and when our time comes we must go. ketty knows your love and would want you to be at peace with his passing, he's free now running in fields of flowers and mice.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your baby. You did everything you could at the time. Your baby was lucky to have found you and know your love. You will have to go with your heart, as to where to bury him. But he knows you love him, where ever he is.
