This morning my mother and father's dog Frodo had to leave this life. I picked him out when I still lived at home with them and he was my best friend and sleeping buddy for the few years I still lived with my parents. Even after I left, he never forgot me and would always come and wag his tail when I called, and bark when I left. He was a good, gentle, faithful sheltie who did nothing but love our family and extended family these last 11 years.
I couldn't get out of work to be there and hold his paw for his last few moments, but I talked to my Mum and she said it was very peaceful. I will miss him more than I can say, but know that for both Frodo and Cara, the love they taught me lives on as long as I have dogs to love.

I'm so sorry for the loss of Frodo, especially when it comes so soon after your own loss of your Cara. The loss of an individual pet is agonizing enough, but when another loss is added to it, it can be devastating. I know it must have been hard for your mother to go through, but she knew he was at peace, and being able to be certain of that can be a real comfort in a difficult time like this.
I know you will also be a great comfort to your mother in this time, and if she feels like sharing her thoughts here she's more than welcome, I'm sure. At a time like this, you will both be a comfort to each other, and your shared love and loss will only strengthen your own bond with each other and hopefully assist with your joint recovery from your losses.
Again, I'm sorry for both your losses, and please let your Mum know that others are thinking of her and you and your family at this difficult time. Take care - Barbara

Oh, that is so sad to hear -- two so close together! Frodo sounded like such a good baby. I think you were with him in spirit. Animals never forget their people, no matter how near or far! He and Cara are having a good time together. Know they're safe, free from pain and happy!!

I feel for you. This is the first time I've gone through this and it's like a shot to the gut. The first hopeful sign I've seen in days is the last thing you said:

Thank you for that. My little Panz didn't seem quite so far away when I read that.
I hope you'll keep posting here and let us know how you're doing.
Be well.
