Here are two photos of Princess. Her name was originally Snooky but she is so spoiled rotten that Princess suits her much more. Our animal rescue/adoption group took her after her 90 year old owner was placed in a nursing home. For some time she had been forgetting to feed Princess or change her litter pan. She would simply forget she had a cat though she was crazy about Princess and had previously lavished attention on her. Being cage aggressive and older, Princess did not have much of a chance for adoption so we took her home with us. She is a work in progress and her introduction to the other cats here is going very slowly due to her lack of living with other cats. We have seen some improvement with the use of Feliway pheromone to calm her and using baby gates so she can experience the others without much danger of being attacked or of having her attack them. She will eventually fit in and is already a real lapcat with us.

Good for you, Ken.
I know it can be a trial with a new introduction, especially with a kitty like "Princess", but I'm sure it will work out great.
I haven't posted my newest beginning yet, as I am waiting for a decent pic, but I adopted a young male from our shelter yesterday. They were calling him Frisky, but I am sure that once I see more of his true personality, the name will change. He is doing great with Wilson and Rufus, and he discovered the mice cages last night- so now he has someone to watch. He is still unsure about the dogs and growled and hissed at first, now he just watches them with a grumpy look. mad.gif It will be fine in a few days I think.
I got him from the "Lonely Hearts Club" room, where all the cats were that had been there for a while. I was looking at a 2 year old male, but he didn't seen interested in me that much. The little guy I brought home chose my lap as I was crouched down socializing with all of the cats, he curled up and layed down, started purring, and dozed off. When I stood up, he clung to my gown, so I assumed he was choosing me- and I brought him home. wub.gif
He is all black and they said between 9 and 12 months, but I think he is either younger, or stunted from living at the shelter, trust me- that will change- I'll fattten him up fast!
Good Luck to you and to me as we embark on our newest adventures of kitty introductions. I'll post my own thread when I have a pic or two to share, and more stories on his progress.
Take care, Ken.

Princess is just lovely...you are a very kind soul to take her in! How lucky is she. She just needs some extra care to settle in.

These stories sadden me..eldery people not being able to care for their pets anymore....there were several cats at the shelter in this situation when I was last there too.

God Bless you & your wife, Ken!

I am so happy that you were able to adopt Princess wub.gif . She really is a beauty - (? a dilute calico??)

I know that with the special kind of love you & your wife have for furkids, Princess will love being among her brothers & sisters in time wub.gif !

Peace & Love,

Thanks everyone for the welcome for Princess and the kind words. Michelle, we want to see those pictures of the new furkid (and give us the new name!) soon. Bless you for letting him choose you. I think it is wonderful that you took him out of the shelter and into a loving home.

Princess has been with us 2 weeks. She is still in the back room much of the time but we have been introducing her to various groups of the menagerie here. Her hissing and growling is much less now than it was, but she really does not like our big white girl Luvey. I think the large size frightens her because Luvey has been on her best behavior around Princess. Other than that, if not estatic about the other cats she is at least tolerating them to some extent now. It may be another month or two before she is fairly comfortable around the gang but we are patient and will follow her timetable with it.

She was about 2 pounds underweight when we got her. She also had scabs from scratching flea bites. The vet gave her a cortisone shot for the derma***is and the fleas had already been taken care of. Her weight is coming back up as she is eating great now. She loves petting and except for the stress of cat introductions seems very happy now in her new home. Our big old black cat Velvet has really taken to her and lies in front of the baby gates across from her often. As long as Princess is separated and feels safe from the cats she is very relaxed. It will just take time for her to adjust to being close to so many cats. They have all been great in trying to show they mean no harm to her.
