does anyone know of any support groups etc. for people living in the UK? I live here permanantly now, but am American by birth. I love my British home, but I'm struggling right now because I do feel that pet berevement is so much more accepted as being 'ok' in America than it is here in the UK. This site is helpful, but it might also be good to talk to people in person.

Hi izzy

ENGLAND
The Pet Bereavement Support Service
Free call: 0800 096 6606

I found this number on Counseling Centers and Hotlines page on the web, I have never telephoned this number so cant vouch for it.

Have you asked at your vet if they know of any local groups, or you could ring the Salvation Army who is there for anybody at any time?

Please visit http://www.pets2rest.co.uk

and http://www.pets2rest.co.uk/newpage5.htm (which lists the addresses)

This excellent website offers links to organisations that can help during times of bereavement for our little furry ones, here in the UK.
I agree that our American friends seem to be more open and honest and upfront (or are at least permitted to be) than we are here in the UK, but many of us here in the UK grieve just as much.
It is so wonderful that a forum like LS exists, because if it did not I would have gone mad stuck her in stiff-upper-lip territory in rural England, where nobody seems to understand what I am going through.
Anyway, hope this site helps.

thank you, both, for the info. i'm having problems with my registered e-mail address, and for some reason the board controls won't let me change it to a working address. so i have seen, brigid, that you e-mailed me a few months ago, but i've not been able to respond. thank you for your mail. how are you doing with things now? i haven't been around on this board for a long time.

I live in the uk and agree it is harder to get support here. I did however find a wonderful site called E.A.S.E Pet Bereavement.
