Melchiondo
I lost my dwarf Stokely yesterday, and I'm having a hard time dealing with this. I've had him since I was 16 (I'm 24 now), and I'm just so sad. He was the cutest little thing, and he had such a spunky personality. Has anyone around here lost a rabbit?

Hi Melchiondo,
Yes, I've lost several rabbits in the past few years. The one that hurt the most - because she was our first baby - was Ichi, whose ashes now rest in a beautiful urn in a cabinet. She'd had several surgeries and seemed to be getting better, so it was a horrible shock to lose her. Several others were born as sort of "runts" of the litter, and probably never had a chance, although we tried. I've found that the pain of the loss of a pet really doesn't vary with the species, so you have my deepest sympathy on your loss. Stokely sounds like she had a good long life, and although the pain is terrible, you do know you were a good "mommy" to her, and her spirit does goes on in your heart. Take care - Barbara

Thank you, Barbara. Stoke went through quite a bit, too. Ear infections, a bad fall, and even a mild stroke. It's pretty amazing that he lived as long as he did. He was a fighter!

Wow, Stoke was a little fighter, wasn't he? (I had his gender wrong in my last post - sorry). Rabbits can be strong little guys sometimes, and can have such personalities. I have 9 of them now, and every single one is like a different little person, almost. Again, my sympathy on your loss. Take care - Barbara
Daisy's Mommy
I agree completely that the pain of the loss of the pet does not vary with the species. Before Daisy, I had two beautiful guinea pigs, each with a distinct personality, likes and dislikes. Their passings were terribly painful to me and I miss them still, and it has been many years.

Daisy's Mommy, but also Mommy to Sara and Peggy.

I had guinea pigs, too. The first ones I had were Chip and Lady, and after them came Elvis and Priscilla. They were just the cutest little things. They always made their prescence known in the house. They were so loud! I loved it.

You have my sympathies. I lost my bunny Rex almost a month ago (hard to believe). He was almost 7 years old. I got him when I was 12 years old. It's really hard to say goodbye to a pet that you grew up with, I know how you feel. It's been the hardest thing I've ever had to go through.
