I took my cat Goliath (beautiful sand colored 2 year old Siberian) to the vet last week because he hadn't been eating, he wasn't grooming himself (he normally does all the time and he also cleans my other cat!), and he was very lethargic. The vet took tests and determined he has some sort of liver problem. They hospitalized him for two days and he came back 3 lbs. heavier (a mere 14 to his normal 19 lbs). I was given meds to give him, but he still isnt eating and he seems depressed. I weighed him today and he is back down to 10 lbs!!! Ive been reading on liver disease and it sounds like he isnt in good shape at all. He is my first pet and only a little over 2 years old. I love Goliath very much and every time i think about how sick he is I start crying. I've been force feeding him today, and i have a follow up with my vet on wed. I really hope he is going to be okay, but i'm starting to think he isnt going to be and it makes me feel so bad inside. If i had only caught on to this sooner maybe he wouldn't be in such bad shape right now. But iall i can do is just hope for the best...[COLOR=purple][FONT=Arial][SIZE=7]

I'm really sorry to hear he is so sick. He's lucky to have someone like you to take care of him. I'll be thinking of you and your baby, and I do hope he gets better. In the meantime, spend all the time with him that you can and take lots of pictures and let him know how much you love him.

Daisy's Mommy
My Daisy had a congenital liver defect and I know that diet is very important in maintaining an animal with liver disease. Daisy ate a low protein diet of Hill's KD. If I were you, I would ask your vet about diet. Also, I took Daisy to a specialist in liver disease at a large animal hospital. If you are near a major city or university, you could consider getting a second opinion on how to enhance and perhaps prolong your cat's life, as long as possible without suffering

Best wishes and good luck,

Daisy's Mommy

Thank you so much for your advice. I go in today for his follow up to run some more tests to see how bad his condition is. Is the Hills KD the food they sell at the Vets office in the silver bag? I have been giving him Hills sensitive stomach.

Daisy ate the canned version, so I'm not sure what color the bag is. K/D is for dogs with kidney defects, but when Daisy was diagnosed it was the only low protein diet that Hills had. They have since added L/D, specifically for liver problems. Daisy hated the L/D so much that I kept her on K/D.

What does the Vet say is wrong with your cat's liver? Daisy had a congenital liver shunt, which caused some of the blood to go around her liver rather than through it.

Best wishes,
