Best Friend Brewster
Hi Everybody-

I wish I would have found this forum a lot sooner. On May 5th, 2006
I had to put my best friend "Brewster" to sleep. He was 13 years old with cancer.
This past month has been horrible for me. I have had him longer than
2 of my birth children. I made the decision to have a vet come to the house
to have him put to sleep. I felt like I at least owed him the comfort of
going "to rest" in his own home. He has always been there for me through all of my emotions. He was truly my "Rock"!! Just holding him and listening to his last breath will never leave my mind.
I have been reading some of the posts and this forum has made me feel so much better just in the little amount of time I have spent here. I appreciate the fact that there are kind a wonderful people out there that are willing to help and comfort others in their time of need.

Hi Brewster's Mom,
I had my "souldog" of 14 years put down on May 23. Tomorrow will be a week since I last held my sweet Spike, and I'm not sure I can face the day. Spike was adopted from a shelter in '92, and the vet then said he was 1-2 years old. Although we both adored Spike, he was definitely My Dog.

At least 100 times since Tuesday I have questioned my decision to have Spike euthanized, but in the moment I felt so sure it was time. Spike has had cancer for two years, but he'd also developed "Doggie Alzheimers" and arthritis. Walking at all had become very difficult and, when he did, he walked in circles.

I have always been owned by cats and have six right now. I love them dearly, but the bond I shared with Spike was truly special. He stole my heart and curled up in my soul. I miss him so much, and my prayers are with you in your sorrow.

I am very sorry for your loss. Brewster was fortunate to have been in such a loving family.

I know how you feel. It is a very painful hard thing to deal with. When you lose that truly special furry friend your entire life changes and seems pretty tough to take at first. The past two and a half months have been some of the worst ones in my life, but I have also discovered how important animals are to my life and I will continue to enrich my and their lives by having them.

Sorry for the loss of Brewster. Good luck with your situation. May both you and he find peace.
