I remember when your boy passed a few months ago and how horrible that was...I'm so sorry that you are faced with this again. As the owner of a giant breed myself (150 pound great dane), I live with the fear of this condition every day, I guess that is why they call giant breed dogs 'heartbreak' breeds. My husband is a pharmacist, and although he has never heard of these drugs (they must not be human grade), he said he would try to find out something more about them and what type of results they have. I was also a vet tech for many years, so I will call my vet (who is also my friend after having worked together for so long) and see what info. he may have on it. I hope I can find something out for you. In the meantime, take care of yourself as well, your girl needs you to have your strength right now.....
Your friend in grief,
Kim

Well, I was able to find out a little bit about this drug and how it works. I'm sure your vet already discussed with you the details of how it works, so I won't go into that, but I did ask my Vet/friend about his experience with it and he said it is the best medication available for your girls condition. He has personally had some really good results with it and has seen some dogs be brought back by it that he felt for sure wouldn't make it. He has even used it for other types of heart problems and calls it a 'miracle drug'! He said that you should be able to see some dramatic results within the first week, and if you do, that means the drug is working for her and should help prolong her life. He couldn't say for how long without her complete history because it would depend on how long she had been having heart problems, but I told him you certainly seemed to be an owner that stayed on top of his babies health, so he said that was definitely a plus. He is a very caring man, and wanted me to tell you that if by chance these drugs didn't work and the inevitable happened, to please know that you have done all you can...that these heart problems that giant breed dogs encounter are much larger than even the best doctors and medications and sometimes it is just a battle we cannot win, unfortunate for those of us who can't help but love our gentle giants.....

hi
i just got back from the vet's and got the same response kim got. my vet said this is a wonderful drug and highly recommends it. she said it is the best drug known for dcm. they have had a lot of success in extending longevity with it. they even used it on a skunk with dcm one time. i hope this helps. my thoughts and prayers are with you. good luck.
