Sorry this is long but I have to explain the whole thing.
My partner and I tonight were sitting on the couch watching tv. Our cat Fluffy was in her bed next to me sleeping. All of the sudden we hear a very muffled cat crying.
We just looked at each other wondering what the noise was. Even our cat Fluffy picked up her head to listen. We immediatley muted the tv and could hear a cat crying (still very muted). Then we turned off the lights in the house and looked outside. It's raining right now so we couldn't imagine a cat being out in this weather. The crying stopped and we just looked at each other saying what the heck is going on? We've lived at this house for 3 1/2 years and have NEVER heard a cat crying/howling/calling. I decided to go outside and look around as I told my partner a cat may be hurt so I should go look. With flashlight in hand I slowly walked around the house and did not see anything.
I came back in and we're both just freaked out about this. Our cat Rocky died Jan 22 and all we can think of is that it's him. I know this sounds absolutely nuts, but nothing else is explains it. I did have a Rocky moment 2 days after he died where I was walking down the hallway of my house and the strongest odor of cat food came over me. Just completely overtook my senses. It lasted about 30 seconds then was gone.
I don't know what to think about all of this but it is very unsettling. A part of us wants to think it was him, but logic dictates it can't be. Can anyone put some persepctive on what we've experienced? Anyone experience the same thing?

Don't feel crazy, I felt the same way, but things like this do happen. I lost my 18 year old baby girl Simple a little over two weeks ago, and since the first night I have felt cats rubbing my legs and jumping on my bed. This does not happen everyday, but atleast seven or eight times so far. At first I was sure it was my other Furbabies after me for attention, but each time it happens they are asleep somewhere else. Now I really do believe that it is our Furkids do try to comfort us. Please leave yourself open for other signs, and I am sure they will come.
Remember you are never alone here,

Hi, I have had signs too, after the passing of my sweet Little Girl.

I feel, as Cindi said, that these are signs of comfort from your Rocky.

When I lost my cat Mittens I had a similar experiece. I was awakened from a sound sleep by Mittens very distinctive meow at the window. Whenever she got left out over night she would call to me about 1 AM to let her in. Having been awakened I of course got up and went to open the door for her, half way to the door I remembered that she was gone. But I knew she was letting me know she was there that night to say goodbye on her terms. So enjoy the "vists" and tell him hi. mimismom

Awwwww-- You've had a visit to let you know he is still near you. Quite a few people have been shocked with similar experiences. Two days after my Spicey died I was very sad and I walked tearfully into my bedroom and suddenly from on top of my bookshelf my big hairy orangatun (who's been sitting there for 2 years) jumped off and bomked me on the head. I suddenly had a distinct feeling of Spicey and I actually burst out laughing in amongst my tears. I think she was trying to tell me to stop crying and to remember all the happy times we shared.
I truly believe they come and visit us and are near us, we just have to be open to the signs.
The love never dies.
