I'm at my wits end - our nearly 10 year old Tiggy has stopped eating since Sunday, nibbled a tiny mouthful only with huge amount of persuasion. Sometimes looks as if she wants to eat, then sniffs food, sometimes licks it then walks away. She coughed up a furball on Sunday and had gone downhill since then. We have been to the vet 3 times this week - examination and blood tests have turned up nothing. She has been given injection of steroid, antibiotic, vitamin and antiemetic, but still nothing. She seems to be fading away, i am so distraught. We lost our other 2 cats in Oct 2004 and then 6 months later in April, i can't believe this is happening again.

Has anybody any advice that they can give?
Thanks

This is so hard, if you know what your treating you know what to do.

I had Jude backwards and forwards to the vet because she was in pain at night which seemed to pass when she went to the toilet, we never found out what was wrong, just tried one thing after another.

Have you thought of some homeopathic remedies a pick me up of some sort ill have a look and post the website but its in England so i dont know if it will be of any use to you, but may get you started finding a closer site.

http://www.natural-animal-health.co.uk are in the middle of making a website with natural herbs for dogs and

http://www.thenaturalapproach.co.uk is another.

I've had the same problem. I have had 2 cats that went throught hepatic lipidosis, and I know how hard it is to get a stubborn cat to eat. I grew them grass to get them chewing on something, some pet stores even have some pre-grown, then I gave them 'junk food' like canned friskies, fancy feast, any treats and what ever they seemed to get interested in. I also raised their food dish off the floor, it seemed to help one of my cats. I also gave them that cat milk by whiskas. It was a little hard to switch them back to regular food when they got better, but like my vet said, anything to get them eating.

Hope any of these suggestions can get your Tiggy eating again!

Thank you for the advice. It's funny as Tiggy eats her dinner from our table, has never liked it from floor level! She seems to have picked up a little today - managed to nibble a bit more. We are just praying that this will be the start. I'm so aware that i don't want to annoy her though, by constantly putting food under her nose, but it's so hard not to, when all you want is to see them eat. We will keep at it though and i will let you know how things pan out. Thanks again for taking the time to reply and for your supporting and caring words - it really does mean a lot to me.
