Hi Everyone:

Well........our sweet, precious furkids-Ms. Lucy wub.gif and Mr. Yoster wub.gif , are scheduled for dental surgery on Tuesday, Feb. 21st, and I & my husband are nervous....

Can anyone tell us their experiences with dental procedures for their furkids??

They both need a couple of extractions, as well as a thorough cleaning... I'm sure they are both in some discomfort with their teeth --- I hope that this will make them feel better.....
But, I already feel as if I'm getting an ulcer...
We love them soooooo much....

All of us here at LS LOVE OUR ANIMALS..... so, I know that all of you can understand!!! Thank you for that!!

We're just scared.... I've heard so many horror stories.

We do trust our vet, and I know that this needs to be done.. We rescued our kids after our sweet Ernestine went to Rainbow's Bridge, two years ago.

As far as we know, Ms. Lucy and Mr. Yoster have never had any dental treatments.

If anyone can put us at ease, I truly would appreciate it!!.

Thank you!!

Peace, Love, Good Health & Happiness,

Denise & Ben (aka "Muffins")

Hello. While any medical/veterinary procedure carries some risk (the human MDs will tell you that about the most minor of surgeries and you have to sign all kinds of disclaimers), I have had my dogs' teeth cleaned many times over the years with no problems.

My vet does bloodwork and thoroughly checks out their hearts before each procedure (I am assuming they'll be under light anesthesia?).

I truly think they will be fine, but I know how you feel. I am always a *little* nervous about it...but the truth is, these procedures are very safe and common.

I hope this is of some help!

Denise and Ben,

my thoughts will be with you and your kidz tomorrow!! The only experience I've had with teeth was when my ex's kitty had a molar extracted. His went great, and he wanted to eat within a few hours and was in no pain. smile.gif

I can understand the nervous feeling. Putting our kidz through anything medical is scary, especially since they don't understand. As soon as it's done, I bet they'll be extra-forgiving and happy. smile.gif

Keep us posted and I hope you get some more feedback on dental procedures.

Love,

Kathy

Dear Jennifer Lynn & Kathy:

Hi! Thank you both soooooo very, very much for answering my post!! We appreciate it very much.

I know that these procedures are rather "routine" -- but, Ms. Lucy wub.gif and Mr. Yoster wub.gif are OUR kids..... We have the furry kind, as so many other people do!!

Our Ms. Lucy is a diabetic, insulin dependent. Tomorrow, we're to give her 1/2 her usual dose. I'm actually going to bring it with me, because I normally give it to her @ 10AM, and we're to leave our house by 7:30am.
We don't want her to be off by too much!

It's almost midnight, so it's time to take their food & water bowls up. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight.... dry.gif

(I know especially Ms. Lucy will know that SOMETHING'S UP ---- "What, NO FOOD???" sad.gif !!)

I just said to my husband, "well, this time tomorrow, God willing, the kids will be comfortable (enough), etc., etc...."

We're worried parents.....

Thank you both for taking the time to answer me. It means a lot!!!

I'll be sure to let you know how it all comes out, as soon as they're feeling better after surgery..

Peace, Love, Good Health & Happiness, Always!!

Denise & Ben (Ms. Lucy and Mr. Yoster) xoxo

To My Sweet & Precious Ernestine wub.gif , Angel..... I love you Ernie-Bird, and we think of you often... Please, be with Lucy and Yoster, in their hearts during their procedures, my love. Please help them to not be nervous--and, please help mommy & daddy to not be so anxious.
Mommy & Daddy always love you, sweet girl.. I just picked up your photo with your beanie babies & gave you a big kiss. You & Lucy look so much alike!
God Bless You Always, our precious Ernie-Bird!!

Hi Denise,
They will be fine and bright white smiles to show for their trauma biggrin.gif

I remember Jude had dental attention but they decided not remove any teeth in the end. all that trauma for nothing, but they have to put them under to be able to have a good look round.

Please don’t fret till theres something to fret over youll give yourself an ulcer

Wrap them in a blanket of your love as you hand them over, they’ll be fine.

Hi Sue wub.gif :

Well, it's Feb. 24th @ 6:24pm, and the kids are resting....

WOW.....it has been a tough road...and, I do thank you so much for thinking of us!!

We brought Lucy & Yoster to the vet by 8am, and the kids were admitted..

(I guess I don't have to tell you how GUILTY & awful we felt at tricking the kids into their carryalls that morning..... Even the night before, "their buffet bowls" weren't around, and Ms. Lucy was soooooo upset, she visited me in bed every 15 minutes, as if to say, "Mom, where is MY FOOD??")

Our veterinarian had to remove 5 of Ms. Lucy's teeth (about 4 weeks ago, she had broken off her upper right canine at the gum line).
He took out that root, and her other upper right canine was eroded, so that came out as well.
Along with 2 carnassials, and one submolar.
She had (VERY) severe gingivitis.

Mr. Yoster had both of his upper canines removed. I know that for several months both were loose, and it was thought that there were infected pockets at the root, and that's exactly what he found......

When we came home, the kids were in an "anesthetic fog", and were playing "musical bowls" with their food dishes... They were starving.

I really did spend a good week being depressed, not to mention the night before (the guilt taking away their food), and the next morning, tricking them into their carryalls.

I still feel "ill"........

We were sent home with antibiotics, and pain meds (injectables). I'd much rather give an injection (we give Lucy her insulin), rather than pilling....
We are horrible at pilling, not to mention when they have sore mouths.....

THANK YOU FOR CARING.....

God Bless You Sue wub.gif ........... I know how hard it is (NOW).....

Even that same night, the kids were purring and loving us wub.gif .......as well, the next morning, and even now.....

It's like they're saying, "Gee, we feel soooooooo much better now biggrin.gif biggrin.gif .....THANK YOU FOR HELPING US".....

We'll talk again soon, time to feed the kids.....

I (and Ben), we just love them so very, very much... THERE ARE OUR KIDS, THAT'S FOR SURE!!!

Love, Denise & Ben xoxo (also, Lucy & Yoster xoxo)
