I ADOPTED YOUR CAT TODAY
THE ONE YOU LEFT AT THE POUND
THE ONE YOU HAD FOR MANY YEARS
THEN NO LONGER WANTED AROUND
I ADOPTED YOUR CAT TODAY
DO YOU KNOW THAT HES LOST WEIGHT?
DO YOU KNOW THAT HE IS REALLY SCARED
AND, IN MAN, HAS LOST ALL FAITH?
I ADOPTED YOUR CAT TODAY
HE HAS FLEAS AND HAS A COLD
BUT I'M SURE YOU WILL NOT WORRY
SINCE YOU HAVE UNBURDENED YOUR LOAD
I ADOPTED YOUR CAT TODAY
WERE YOU HAVING A BABY OR MOVING AWAY?
DID YOU SUDDENLY DEVELOP ALLERGIES
OR WAS THERE NO REASON HE COULD NOT STAY
I ADOPTED YOUR CAT TODAY
AND WITH ME IS WHERE HE'LL STAY
AS HE'S NOW IN HIS FOREVER HOME
AND HAS HIS OWN BED WHERE HE CAN LAY
I ADOPTED YOUR CAT TODAY
AND I'LL GIVE HIM ALL HE'LL EVER NEED
I'LL TRY TO RESTORE HIS FAITH IN MAN
AND HOPE HE CAN FORGET YOUR SELFISH DEED

That should be posted EVERYWHERE. Some people do not understand that furbabies have hearts and souls, fears and pain. What a sad poem, but something everyone should read- to help them understand what they have found when they bring home a "pet" baby to love. I COULD NEVER LET ONE OF MINE GO. Once they are with me, I have made the committment to provide for them until the end of their earthly days. Everyone should consider this before they buy, adopt, or surrender a pet.
Thanks for sharing,

My two beauties came from two different shelters. The grey one, Em, came from Pets for Life, which does rescue. I think she had been abused and kicked. She runs from men, and I can't stroke her with my foot - she cowers. It took a long time for her to relax around me and become more friendly. It took even longer for her to relax around my husband. Someone damaged her psyche. Even now, if we have men over to the house, she hides.
The little calico, Alice, came from a farm. She had had kittens and the farmer shot all of them. She ran away from him, saving her own life. A man who was visiting the farmer found her and brought her to a no-kill shelter. She is a remarkably friendly little beastie for one who was shot at.
Both are grateful little souls. Alice always purrs when you feed her. She greets me at the door - I should buy her a blue Wal-Mart vest. My feeling is that they know how much better their lives are now.
