I haven't been to the site for a long while. I lost Ginger last year in May. I still miss him every single day but it has gotten ALOT better!
Meanwhile, I hoped you could help me--!
I have a friend whose name is Kitty. She is very tender hearted and she adopted a beautiful cat from the Humane Society very recently. I am going to be a volunteer at the Oregon Humane Society (it is not official yet but I am looking forward to it). The trouble is that the kitty (whose name is Carly) is very very ill. Apparently Carly has been fed intravenously for quite a spell and now she has lost the desire to eat on her own. This is SO upsetting and traumatizing for Kitty (the person). I told her today that I think the Humane Society would really like to help her and discuss this with her but Kitty won't hear of it ..she stated "I would not set foot back in that place EVER!!!" I really know the OHS works hard to place healthy cats. I feel so many emotions because I don't want Carly to suc%%b and I certainly don't want Kitty (who is such a kind person & already very attached to Carly) to lose her "new" cat like this. Today Carly went to the vet and I think they may have tried some strategies on her, but the word was that it didn't look all that promising.
Could you please say a prayer or light a candle for Kitty and her cat Carly in Portland Oregon?? I normally don't ask for these types of things....but I think if you send up a thought or a prayer for Kitty and Carly it could really help. Just sending a thought in their direction, a positive one--would be so appreciated.
Thanks so much, my animal loving friends.

I am lighting the candle as I post. It is called "serenity" which says it all for both Kitty and Carly. I pray for them and hope it all goes the way it should for both of them. Lots of love.

My kitt Sweetpea/striper lost her desire to eat too but i did not give up and I found a way to feed her your friend could try my way too ...it worked and Stripes gained most of her weight back from 3 lb to over 6 lb. Here is what I did, my cat had kidney disease so ajust the recipe for the cats medical condition
recipe:
1 5.5 oz tin kidney diet food ( Hill's k/d)
3-4 Tbsp whiskas cat milk
3 Tbsp Nutri-cal energy supplement from the vet or order on line
1/2 tsp lactalose for bowel movement from pharmacy
1/2 tsp potassium supplement from vet
blend intil mouse like divide into 3 and freeze in small ziplock plastic containers
go to medical supply store and buy a catheter syringe 35 cc style they have a large wide tip and buy a urethral catheter the biggest diameter they have, they are usually pink, fit in on the syringe then cut off all but 1/2" this makes the soft bumper tip so you don't cut the gums of the cat . Fill the syringe with some mousse food and gently feed the cat from the side of the mouth near the back of the teeth a few drops at a time I got to 80 cc a day this way. keep some moist tissue on hand to wipe up the sticky bits. After 4 months and 3 lb of weight gain Stripes started to eat on her own again
I hope this helps and please pass this method on I can take some picutes of the syringe and put them here if needed

I should add I fed her twice a day about 40 cc a time, she got used to it very fast and did not protest very much, oh how I wish she was still here, I'd have fed her forever like that I loved her so much

I know you guys!! isn't it wonderful???? so seldom do we ever see any "good news" here in this particular forum!
Carly apparently had this syndrome where she learned to "not eat" because she was on intravenous so long. I am not sure what her initial problem was. But I talked to Kitty yesterday again and she confirmed that Carly is definately on a good track because she ate some on her own!
Thanks again for all your good wishes. Personally, I think they HELPED.
