My poor little kitty (I still call her a kitty, even though she's over 14 years old) has a tumor under her tongue that ulcerated. I didn't notice it until it was really bad off, and now she's going for surgery today. I feel so helpless. She's my little baby, and I don't know what I'll do if I lose her. I've had her since I was a little girl and she's always been there for me. Now I can only be there for her.
They think it might be cancer, so they're doing a biopsy and we'll know in two to three weeks. I just hope she's ok. Has anyone else had this happen? Any advise on what I can do to help her? I normally give her dry cat food, but since her tongue is so bad I've given my baby nothing but Fancy feast! tongue.gif She likes it a lot. I just don't know what to do. I know that if it is cancer, I'll have to put her to sleep at some point. I just don't want to...it's so hard. Someone told me I could just get a new cat. But I couldn't! It'd be like saying you can get a new sister if this one dies. She's family.

Dear Jen,

I'm so sorry to hear about Kitty. I'll keep her in my thoughts today and pray that she does well through the surgery.

Hopefully you'll get good news back from the biopsy and she can go back to eating regular food again. Although you may want to keep giving her a little dab of fancy feast or baby food just to let her know how special she is. smile.gif

Hugs,
Kathleen

So, I got her home today. The operation went really well. I brought her home around 6:00pm. She moved over from her carrier (I took the top off but didn't have the heart to move her) to my closet where my jacket was laying on the floor around 8:30-9:00. She had her cute little nose all snuggled into the underarm of the jacket. She started moving around about 11:00, and staggered around the room for about 15 minutes. I watched her (I about cried she looked so pitiful staggering around like a little drunk) trying to figure out what she wanted. She circled my bed, and kept staring up at it. My bed's fairly far off the ground, and I finally realized she wanted to climb up on to it but was too weak to do so! So, of course, I helped her up onto the bed, and she's laying down sleeping at the moment all covered up, her little kitty head poking out from the covers. I noticed her third eyelid was showing...is that normal for a cat coming out of anethesia? I'm hoping it is.
So what's the diagnosis? Well, the vet said that there's a 40% chance that the tumor was cancer. Which means she's got a 60% chance of being ok!! happy.gif I'm hoping that this will be the case. But....well....there's still that 40%. Either way, she'll be back at the vet on Friday and then we'll see how she's doing. I'll know in a few days to a week if it is cancer or not. So, until I know I'll keep feeding my little baby Fancy feast for a while...fish and shrimp for my baby! happy.gif I also need to send the vet tech something nice. She's been so sweet to my little kitty. I think she's fairly young (I can't say too much, I'm only 22) and I just want to show my appreciation for all she's done for my baby. I need to take some pictures of her to give to Brittany (the vet tech) and I'll post some up here too.

Well, I heard back from the doctor today (Actually, I called him because Kitty's mouth was bleeding) and he said it wasn't cancer! ^____^ YAY! I'll get a better update from him tomorrow. Last Friday I took Kitty in for a quick check-up and the doctor said her tongue looked a lot better. But I'm afraid she might have hurt herself or the tumor is growing back. So, I'm gonna take her in tomorrow for another check up and then on the 13th she'll go in for another shot to ensure there isn't an infection.

Other than that she's been eating fairly well and even acting a little playful though I can tell she's still in a little bit of pain. I'm hoping she'll get better soon and be playing with string and yarn. I was really worried about her for a while. I don't know what I'd do without my baby. I just hope everything turns out alright.

Jen

P.S. I'll try and post a picture of kitty up soon.
