Hello friends,

Well, can you believe it?! My little Brandy has managed to hurt herself again. Another trip to the vet! ohmy.gif

Somehow, and we have NO idea how, she has managed to break a bone in her back paw. She has been outside playing with Danny. The weather is actually beautiful here today. She came inside and I noticed that she was limping and keeping pressure off her one back paw. We checked all around the pads, assuming she must have cut herself or gotten a thorn stuck in there. Nothing. Later we noticed she started to whimper when she would lay down. At one point, she jumped up on the bed and cried in pain. When we looked again, the paw had swelled up!!! Then I felt something sticking up under the skin, what seemed to be hard like a bone. We rushed her to the vet, and sure enough it's a broken bone in her paw sad.gif

Poor little girl. She has a big splint on there that looks like it weighs more than she does. We have to keep that on her for two weeks and go back for another xray to see if it healed okay. Since she is young the vet said it should heal quickly. I just didn't have the heart to get her that big plastic "bowl" collar, but already she lays down and wants to chew on it.

This little girl is just something!!!! When we got to the vet the receptionist even laughed and said, "Hi Brandy! What did you do to yourself this time?". She is becoming well known!!!! tongue.gif

Thanks for letting me share another scarey moment in my life!

Awww - poor Brandy! It's amazing how quickly they can injure themselves.

Luba tore an entire nail off a paw a few years ago. She had been racing around the backyard with Falkor. She came in whining and wailing, holding her paw up at me to see. The nail was bent backwards and the quick was hanging out completely exposed. Several hundreds of dollars, and a surgery later she was fine again.

Give Brandy cuddles from me! How old is she now?

Oh no! Poor little girl! That is such a cute picture though. Your story reminds me of a friend of ours' little (human) girl Sarah. She has two brothers and is the cutest little tom boy you'll ever meet. They had to take Sarah to the emergency room two nights in a row one time. One night it was a roller skating accident where she knocked some teeth out and I can't remember what the other incident was. But when they got to the ER the nurse said, "We had a Sarah Evans in here last night," and her Dad said, "yep that's the one!"

I hope little Brandy's paw heals very quickly! Keep us posted.

Oh Steph, how terrible to have gone through the torn nail with poor Luba. I got chills just reading that! I know Luba's cries must have made you feel terrible. At least some surgery fixed her right up again. Double OUCH on the cost, huh?! Today's visit, with xrays, splint and "walk in" visit without an appointment cost close to $200! blink.gif
Brandy is 8 months old now. What will the next few weeks, months or years (if I am blessed enough!) be like?!

Jenny, I can certainly relate to how your friend felt. My little girl, although furbaby, is quite a tomboy herself! But she's just so darn cute!!! wub.gif

Thanks SO much for your replies and conerns!
Cheri

PS - By the way, I had him do a heartworm check on her today so I could start her on heartworm protection. The vet told us the test also showed for any lime disease too. She was negative for heartworm, but he said it showed a slight positive for the lime disease!!! However, he feels she has just probably been exposed to it. He told us to watch her and let him know immediately if she shows any symptoms. Has anyone else experienced this? It really makes me nervous!!! He seemed vague on what to look for, but I plan on researching it on the internet.
Sheez....I think I may need to invest in insurance for this little girl!!! laugh.gif

Oh Cheri I am so sorry poor little Brandy broke the bone in her paw. Oh my, Brandy until you grow up we are going to have to put you in a room with cotton ball walls and floors, LOL. Cheri I hope Brandy is up and running in no time. Kiss her little foot for me. I think you are going to need 2 puppy books, you might need to use one for all her injuries. Poor baby.
Love, Ann

Ooooohhhh poor little girl! She sounds like she is as accident prone as my husband!! He can't walk two feet without stubbing a toe or bonking his head on something (don't EVER let him know I said that laugh.gif )

Give little Brandy a kiss from me also. I hope she has a speedy recovery!

Oh Kristie, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time when you said your husband could not even walk 2 feet with out stubbing his toe or bonking his head on something. Thank bit of humor was just what I needed to brings peels of laughter to my soul!
Love, Ann

I hope little Brandy is not in any pain tonight and can sleep through the night.
Steph
Cheri,

How is the little pup doing today?

Give her a cuddle for me!

Hi Steph!

Thanks SO much for checking on my little Brandy biggrin.gif
She seems to be doing fine. That poor splint is so big on her little leg/foot though. I kid her and tell her it looks like she is wearing a big clown's shoe. My husband kids with her and calls her "Peg Leg". When she walks on a hard surface you can hear the "thump" sound on that paw. However, she still runs across the yard and wants to play even with the big clunky splint on.

She's one "tough cookie"!

Cheri, does Brandy belong to a football team or something that you may not be aware of??? LOL!!

She is just such a beautiful little doggy!!! I know she hates it, but she just looks so darn cute with that big white splint against her silky black fur.

Hi Cheri-

I just now read your post about sweet Brandy. Poor little girlie with that big splint sad.gif At least she's got her young age in her favor as far as the healing process goes. biggrin.gif

Lyme disease...........Last year, after finding a couple of gross ticks on my dog, Heidi, I called the vet. She said that symptoms could show up as long as 6 months after the animal has been bitten. One thing to watch for is the dog walking stiffly, like he/she would with arthritis. Luckily, Heidi didn't have Lyme................ smile.gif

Give Brandy a big hug from me. wub.gif

Dear Cheri,

I've been out of pocket for a few days, but I wanted to let you know that I've thought of Brandy several times. I hope she's well on the mend!

Love,

Give her cuddles from me!

Dear Cheri, How is that little angel Brandy doing now? Has she been staying out of trouble? Let us know.

My little Schnitzel got bit by that new dog Summer I brought in. Schnitzel had to have stitches just because she tried to take her own toy away from Summer. My poor baby was having some nightmares after that too. I am glad I found someone to take Summer they thought they could work with her. Well it made me know just how much I do love my little Schnitzel.

Dear Ann,

Thank you for asking about my Brandy. She seems to be doing fine! biggrin.gif
She really is a little "TomBoy" though. She kept chewing off the bandages and tape. We would purchase more and more and keep wrapping it back up. It was like she decided one day while we were at work that she was going to make sure we didn't wrap it again...she chewed up the hard plastic splint! laugh.gif First she chewed out all the foam that makes it comfortable on the inside. Then she started chewing as hard as she could around the edges of the splint. We talked to her doctor and he said to let her go without it. It had been almost a week at that point. He told us that those kinds of breaks usually never heal right anyway. So, she WON!!!!! tongue.gif She has been running around trying to catch more squirrels, chasing Danny in the yard and acting like she never broke a bone. She's a tough little girl!

How is Schnitzel doing? Where are the stitches? Poor little baby sad.gif Please give her kisses for me!

Love,
Cheri

Dear Cheri, I guess there is no holding our babies down even when they get hurt. I am glad to hear little Brandy is running around again. Does she have a limp or anything or did it heal enough she can walk and run ok?

I guess our sweet babies are breaking us in good, maybe they will be fine as adults and not get hurt. Little Schnitzel has been playing with her toys today too, she's acting like nothing happened. Her stitches are on her little belly, she has been leaving them alone so far. My husband was worried she would not be herself after the attack but she is doing good now.
Love, Ann
