I'm kind of on a personal fact-finding mission. I read somewhere that male cats are more likely to develop lymphoma than females. My Inky was a male.

Since I'm going to be getting a new kitten shortly, I was wondering if you all would mind telling me what gender your cats were that you lost due to lymphoma.

I had a female scottish fold who died of lymphoma. My Bubba died of cancer this past dec. his cancer went so fast that he fell very ill rapidly. I don't think Bubba had lymphoma. Bubba had deteriorated so quickly that the vet gave us one last chance to try to save him and he went in to see what was killing him. He had cancer on his spleen and kidneys so I had to let him go. Very very sad day........

I just wanted to try to make some sense out of this. They actually never were able to come up with a difinitive diagnosis for my Inky, but with the way he also deteriorated, that's the suspicion.

Reading that article about male vs. female felines, I was so curious that I figured I'd put it out here for thoughts. Perhaps it doesn't even matter when the end result is losing our angels.

Thank you for your kind words about Bubba. Yes, it is so difficult to have a healthy cat one day and then the next they are deteriorating so rapidly. I was taking him to the vet at least 2 times a week trying to figure out what was wrong. We thought it was an infection till the antibiotics were not working, and he was going down so rapidly. Bubba couldn't make it in the litter box he was hurting so bad. Bubba was that very special once in a lifetime friend. He had a very pampered life and I loved him so much. I understand what you are going thru. Inky and Bubba are now free of the bodies that were causing them so much discomfort, and are now in the spirit world. I know in my heart that they are with us in spirit and visit us from time to time.

My female dog, Shiloh died of lymphoma...I know that doesn't help with your kitty fact finding mission, but this might, I have a friend whose male cat died with lymphoma.

My tortoiseshell cat Tiggy died age 11 of lymphosarcoma which I think is the same thing you are asking about. She was female. She was a very healthy cat until age 11 and then it all happened very quickly, so maybe it was just her age.

Thats what Shatazar my female scottish fold had was lymphosarcoma. She was only 6 years old. Thats a good question, is that the same thing? It sounds the same but....

My male cat, Razzamataz, died two years ago of lymphoma. I took him to the vet at the end of April, 2003 and he was given a clean bill of health. I put him to sleep July 19th, 2003. He was 13.

I just looked up the definitions in my nurses dictionary.

Lymphoma: A tumour of lymphoid tissue.

Lymphosarcoma: Sarcoma (a malignant tumour) arising in a lymph gland.

They sound very similar.
