This may be a really strange question, but I feel comfortable enough to be strange here. We'll be getting Inky's ashes soon and he'll be arriving in a tacky tin box. Once his new urn arrives, how do I move him into it? Do you actually pour the ashes in? I think I'll lose it if he somehow "spills" during the transfer process. Any tips? The last thing I want is to hurt him.

Thanks for any knowledge you can share. Sorry to be a moron!

Most the time they come in a plastic bag inside urn. I did however get ashes back from 2 of my cats that were in a tin and they are not in a plastic bag.

yes, usually it is in a bag. i kept tribble's cremains in the bag and placed it inside the container i used, to avoid spillage.

I just got off the phone with a lovely woman from "Paws2Heaven", from which I ordered Inky's beautiful Urn. She hand crafts them and said that the tin will just sit right inside, so I don't even have to disturb him if I chose not to. This is comforting to me. I dreaded the idea of opening up the tin and bugging him.... I know that "look" I would have gotten!!

The woman I was speaking to was just so wonderful. She told me how she started this business right after she lost her beloved cat, Benny. It's been a few years and she still chokes up speaking about him. We had a wonderful conversation and I assured her that Benny would be so very, very proud to have such a needed and comforting article being made in his memory.

Just wanted you guys to know this. Those pet urns are truly made with love.

Unlike human ashes, pet ashes are more easily left in the bag when transferred to the urn (human ashes come in a much larger amount, as you can well imagine).

Pat,

I went to a regular funeral home. I didn't like anything they had on display, so they looked through all their catalogs with me and ordered one for me. They offered to transfer my dog, Max, to the new urn. But I wanted to do it myself to make sure he was handled respectfully. It would have been better to allow the professionals to do it as it was more difficult than it looked -- his ashes were in a plastic bag inside a velvet bag.

Hope this helps -- I'm so sorry for your loss, Karen
