Since my roomate has moved out I have had alot of time alone in the evenings. Last night I kept hearing those strange ole house noises, the wind was blowing, it was sleeting. I actually felt a little scared of the noises coming from the gradge. WoW, do I ever miss my Moose"s protection, he would bark at strange noises then look at me for a que on how to react. His bark would scare anyone and I knew he would die if he had to ...to protect me. That is what enabled me to sleep soundly at night knowing he was standing guard, that loss of security is profound. It was warm in the house, I remebered how I loved the winter nights when we were safe and secure in our home. Oh Moose, I miss you from the depths of my soul. Pamela

Pamela, I sure know what you mean about not feeling protected any more and not having the security. I used to take Snookie with me every where and when I ran to the store or ran something over to one of my children at night. I knew that she would protect me. Now if I have to go out at night I feel so vulnerable. Snookie loved people and let everyone pet her except when she was in the car with me. No one dared come to close to her Mama.

These days the house is colder without my Hegel cat. My favorite time of day was
at night, when the baby was asleep in his bassinet, our dog asleep in his "nap box"
and my precious Hegel at me and my husband's feet. It was such a feeling of
security and warmth. "all our boys".
I don't know how to get that secure feeling back, except to know we carry their
memories in our hearts.

I think the insecurity comes with trying to find myself again, it was always Moose and I. Now it is just me again. Just that part of getting used to that big void. I loved that secure feeling of alls well. I miss that feeling. sad.gif Pamela

Pamela-
I know the feeling of the empty house. Things are so much colder without Indy here to warm them.
He and I snuggled under a blanket on cold nights. He snoozed but I could tell by how he perked up his ears that he was always listening and on guard and protecting me. He was such a little guy but he had the heart of a lion.
I too have lost my sense of security.
I miss my little man like you miss Moose.
Thinking of you.
Love,
Fran

I know what you mean . . . my little Hannah only weighed 7 pounds, but I've never known anyone that I felt so safe with. I miss her.

Dear Pam,

You are just so in tune with your feelings, that I truly admire you!
I think you understand that you are trying to find your way in life now without your precious Moose by your side. You always thought he would be there for you. Since you lost him so tragically and without preparation, you have had to deal with some pain and loneliness that you didn't expect in your life right now.

I'm sure you know he is still by your side. You just can't see him anymore. Know that he is still watching over you and protecting you wub.gif

Many years ago, I had a Honda Prelude that caught fire in my driveway. I had the brakes worked on that evening, and apparently they didn't catch something that was dragging. I was in bed asleep and my dear Rachael woke me up barking. I remember telling her to lay back down and go back to sleep. I assumed she heard some of those noises in the night. She kept barking though and wouldn't let me go back to sleep. When I finally woke up enough to hear the urgency in her barks, my phone rang. It was my neighbor and she heard Rachael's loud and alarming barks. She wanted to know if I was okay. I happened to look out my bedroom window and saw my car in flames! My neighbor told me she would call the fire department for me. My car was parked up close to my garage, so if it had been left much longer, it would have spread to my garage and further. Rachael honestly saved my life and our home that night! I like to think that if something like that happened again, her spirit would find a way to wake me.

Our furbabies are such protectors, aren't they?

My thoughts and prayers are always with you Pam!

I house sat for my parents one weekend years ago, they had a little dog they called "Hottsy" she looked just like Ann's chile bean, well, about 3 am she started barking, she just kept it up and up no matter how much I yelled at her. So I got up and there were 2 men stealing meat out of the freezer of all things. As soon as I walked into the kitchen they ran out of the house. Little Hottsy did not have much of a bark but she was sure consistant! Pamela

When Clair and I first move into our house we did not have the locks changed right away like we should have. Someone used their key to come into the kitchen door but they did not stay long with our little girl chasing them and barking like crazy. The ran and left the door open and never came back into our home again.

One time our daughter got home from school a few minutes before we did and someone called the police when she called in through a window. The officer said he knew for sure that the child belonged there because there was no way a stranger would have crawled through the window with that dog in there.

Seems like a lot of people are afraid of miniature schnauzers and even some of the smaller dogs. Regardless of their size they are wonderful watch dogs when they love us. Of course I don't think anyone could have heard Chili Bean until they would have come in, she had such a cute tiny bark. She thought she was a huge girl and not the 6 pounder she was.
Love, Ann
